ലഖ്നൗ: ഉത്തര്‍പ്രദേശിലെ ഝാന്‍സിയില്‍ സുശീല ദേവി (54) എന്ന സ്ത്രീയുടെ കൊലപാതകത്തില്‍ പോലീസ് നടത്തിയ അന്വേഷണത്തില്‍ കെട്ടഴിഞ്ഞത് മരുമകളുടെ അവിഹിത ബന്ധങ്ങളും മോഷണവും കൊലപതകശ്രമവുമടക്കമുള്ള വലിയ ഗൂഢാലോചന. സുശീല ദേവിയുടെ മരുമകളും കേസിലെ പ്രതിയുമായ പൂജ യാദവിന്റെ (29) കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങള്‍ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത് 11 വര്‍ഷം മുന്‍പാണെന്ന് പോലീസ് പറയുന്നു. മധ്യപ്രദേശില്‍വച്ചാണ് പൂജയുടെ ആദ്യ വിവാഹം. പ്രണയ വിവാഹമായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും സാമ്പത്തിക കാര്യങ്ങളില്‍ ഇരുവരും തമ്മില്‍ തര്‍ക്കം പതിവായിരുന്നു.

ഭര്‍ത്താവിനെ കൊല്ലാന്‍ പൂജ വാടകകൊലയാളിയുടെ സഹായം തേടി. വെടിവെച്ച് കൊല്ലാനായിരുന്നു പദ്ധതി. കൊല്ലാനുള്ള ശ്രമം നടന്നെങ്കിലും അയാള്‍ രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. പൂജയ്ക്കെതിരേ പരാതിയും നല്‍കി. ഈ കേസില്‍ കുറച്ച് കാലം ജയിലില്‍ കിടന്നു. ജാമ്യത്തിലിറങ്ങിയ ശേഷമാണ് ഒട്ടേറെ കേസുകളില്‍ പ്രതിയായ കല്യാണുമായി പരിചയപ്പെടുന്നത്. കല്യാണ്‍ വിവാഹിതനായിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും ഇവര്‍ തമ്മില്‍ പ്രണയത്തിലായി. ഒടുവില്‍ ഝാന്‍സിയില്‍ കുറേക്കാലം ഒരുമിച്ച് താമസിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെയാണ് കല്യാണ്‍ വാഹനാപകടത്തില്‍ മരിക്കുന്നത്.

കല്യാണ്‍ മരിച്ചതിനെത്തുടര്‍ന്നു പൂജയെ ഭര്‍തൃപിതാവായ അജയ് സിങും ഭര്‍തൃസഹോദരനായ സന്തോഷും ചേര്‍ന്ന് കുമ്ഹരിയയിലുള്ള അവരുടെ തറവാട്ട് വീട്ടിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. വിവാഹിതനായിരുന്ന സന്തോഷുമായി പൂജ പിന്നീട് ബന്ധം ആരംഭിച്ചു. ഇതില്‍ ഇവര്‍ക്ക് ഒരു കുട്ടിയും ജനിച്ചു. ഇതേത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് സന്തോഷിന്റെ ഭാര്യ രാഗിണി വഴിക്കിട്ട് സ്വന്തം വീട്ടിലേക്ക് പോയി. തുടര്‍ന്ന് സ്വത്ത് തര്‍ക്കങ്ങളും ആരംഭിച്ചു. കല്യാണിന്റെ സ്വത്തിന്റെ ഒരു പങ്ക് വില്‍ക്കാന്‍ പൂജ ശാഠ്യം പിടിച്ചതോടെയാണ് പ്രശ്നങ്ങള്‍ വഷളാകുന്നത്. സന്തോഷും അജയ് സിങ്ങും വില്‍പ്പനയ്ക്ക് സമ്മതിച്ചു, പക്ഷേ, പൂജയുടെ അമ്മായിയമ്മയായ സുശീല ദേവി അതിനെ ശക്തമായി എതിര്‍ത്തു.

സുശീലയുടെ എതിര്‍പ്പില്‍ അസ്വസ്ഥയായ പൂജ, സഹോദരി കാമിനിയുമായും കാമിനിയുടെ കാമുകന്‍ അങ്കിതുമായും ചേര്‍ന്ന് സുശീലയെ ഒഴിവാക്കാന്‍ പദ്ധതി തയ്യാറാക്കി. തന്നെ സഹായിച്ചാല്‍ ഭൂമി വിറ്റ് ലഭിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ പകുതിപ്പണം തരാമെന്നും അവര്‍ക്ക് വാഗ്ദാനം നല്‍കി. പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കാനായി സന്തോഷിനെയും അജയ് സിങിനെയും വീട്ടില്‍നിന്ന് മാറ്റി നിര്‍ത്താന്‍ ഗ്വാളിയാറില്‍ മകളുടെ പിറന്നാള്‍ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുകയും അവിടേക്ക് ക്ഷണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈ സമയം ജൂണ്‍ 24-ന് രാത്രിയില്‍, കാമിനിയും അങ്കിതുും 125 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ യാത്ര ചെയ്ത് ഝാന്‍സിയിലെത്തി. വീട്ടില്‍ സുശീല ഒറ്റയ്ക്ക് ആകുന്നത് വരെ കാത്തിരുന്നു. സമയം ഒത്തുവന്നപ്പോള്‍ സുശീല ദേവിക്ക് വിഷം കുത്തിവെച്ച ശേഷം കഴുത്തു ഞെരിച്ച് കൊലപ്പെടുത്തി. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഇരുവരും എട്ട് ലക്ഷം രൂപ വിലവരുന്ന സ്വര്‍ണ്ണാഭരണങ്ങള്‍ കൊള്ളയടിക്കുകയും രക്ഷപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.

സുശീലയെ മരിച്ച നിലയില്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിയതിന് പിന്നാലെ ബന്ധുക്കള്‍ പോലീസിനെ വിവരം അറിയിച്ചു. മോഷണം കൊലപാതകത്തില്‍ കലാശിച്ചുവെന്നാതായിരുന്നു ആദ്യനിഗമനം. ഫോറന്‍സിക് തെളിവുകളുടെയും സാക്ഷി മൊഴികളുടെയും അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളെ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തു. മരണാനന്തര ചടങ്ങുകള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷം പൂജ വീട്ടില്‍ തിരിച്ചെത്താതിരുന്നപ്പോഴാണ് സംശയങ്ങളുയര്‍ന്നത്. അവരുടെ അസാന്നിധ്യം, മൊഴികളിലെ വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങള്‍, മൊബൈല്‍ ടവര്‍ ഡാറ്റ എന്നിവ ചേര്‍ന്നപ്പോള്‍ പൂജയെ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യാന്‍ പോലീസ് തീരുമാനിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. നിരന്തരമായ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യലില്‍ അവര്‍ കുറ്റസമ്മതം നടത്തുകയായിരുന്നു.

ഭര്‍തൃപിതാവ് അജയ് സിങ്ങുമായും പൂജയ്ക്ക് അവിശുദ്ധ ബന്ധമുണ്ടായിരുന്നതായും പോലീസിന് വിവരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അത് കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ തകര്‍ച്ച കൂടുതല്‍ വഷളാക്കിയെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. അജയ് സിങ്ങുമായുള്ള ബന്ധത്തെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് പൂജയെ സന്തോഷ് അവഗണിക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങി. ഒരു ഭാഗത്ത് സുശീലയുമായുള്ള ശത്രുതയും മറ്റൊരു ഭാഗത്ത് സന്തോഷ് അവഗണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തതോടെയാണ് സ്വത്ത് സ്വന്തമാക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ പൂജ നടത്തിയതെന്ന് സംശയിക്കുന്നതായി പോലീസ് പറയുന്നു. കവര്‍ച്ചാ ശ്രമത്തിനിടെ സുശീല കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടുവെന്ന് വരുത്തി തീര്‍ക്കാനാണ് പൂജ ശ്രമിച്ചത്.

മോഷ്ടിച്ച ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ ബന്ധുവിന് വില്‍ക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് അങ്കിതിനെ പിടികൂടിയതെന്ന് പോലീസ് പറഞ്ഞു. ഇയാള്‍ പോലീസിന് നേരെ വെടിയുതിര്‍ത്തു. ഇതോടെ പോലീസ് തിരിച്ചും വെടി വെച്ചു. ഇയാള്‍ക്ക് പരിക്കേല്‍ക്കുകയും ഝാന്‍സി മെഡിക്കല്‍ കോളേജില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുകയാണിപ്പോള്‍.

തിരുവമ്പാടി: പതിന്നാലാം വയസ്സിൽ ചെയ്തൊരു പാതകം. അതിന്റെ പേരിൽ നീറിക്കഴിഞ്ഞത് 39 വർഷം. ഒടുവിൽ മനസ്സിലെ വിങ്ങലൊന്നവസാനിപ്പിക്കാൻ പോലീസിനു മുൻപിലെത്തി. കുറ്റസമ്മതമൊഴി നൽകി ജയിലിലേക്കു പോയി. മലപ്പുറം വേങ്ങര ചേറൂർ കിളിനക്കോട് പള്ളിക്കൽ ബസാറിൽ താമസിക്കുന്ന തായ്പറമ്പിൽ മുഹമ്മദലിയാണ് 14-ാം വയസ്സിൽ താൻ ചെയ്ത പ്രവൃത്തിയിലൂടെ ഒരു യുവാവിന്റെ ജീവൻ നഷ്ടമായ കാര്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് വേങ്ങര പോലീസിനുമുൻപിൽ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞത്. ഇയാളെ മഞ്ചേരി ജുഡീഷ്യൽ മജിസ്ട്രേറ്റ് കോടതി റിമാൻഡ്ചെയ്ത് മഞ്ചേരി സബ് ജയിലിലടച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്.

1986 ഡിസംബറിൽ കൂടരഞ്ഞി കരിങ്കുറ്റിയിൽ മലയോര ഹൈവേക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള തോട്ടിൽ യുവാവിനെ മരിച്ചനിലയിൽ കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നു. ആ സംഭവത്തിലാണ് കുറ്റസമ്മതം. കൂലിപ്പണിക്കാരനാണ് മുഹമ്മദലി. മൂത്ത മകന്റെ മരണവും രണ്ടാമത്തെ മകന്റെ അപകടവും കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ കുറ്റബോധംകൊണ്ട് ഉറങ്ങാൻപറ്റാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിലായെന്നും മനസ്സ് അത്രമേൽ നീറിപ്പുകഞ്ഞതോടെ എല്ലാം ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞാൽ സമാധാനം കിട്ടുമെന്നു തോന്നിയെന്നും മുഹമ്മദലി പോലീസിനോട് പറഞ്ഞു. കൃത്യം നടന്ന കൂടരഞ്ഞിയിലെ തോടും പോലീസിന് കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു.

കൂടരഞ്ഞി മിഷൻ ആശുപത്രിക്കു പിന്നിലെ വയലിലെ ചെറുതോട്ടിൽ യുവാവിന്റെ ജഡം കണ്ടെത്തിയെന്നും 20 വയസ്സ് തോന്നിക്കുമെന്നുമാണ് 1986 ഡിസംബർ അഞ്ചിലെ പത്രവാർത്ത. മരണത്തിൽ അസ്വാഭാവികതയൊന്നും തോന്നിയിരുന്നില്ലെന്നാണ് നാട്ടുകാർ പറയുന്നത്. പറമ്പുടമ ദേവസ്യ ഇപ്പോൾ അസുഖബാധിതനായി വീട്ടിൽ കിടപ്പാണ്. അന്ന് പ്രീഡിഗ്രി വിദ്യാർഥിയായിരുന്ന സമീപവാസി മലപ്രവനാൽ ജോസ് സംഭവത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ഓർക്കുന്നത് ഇങ്ങനെ; “കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടത് ആരാണെന്ന് അന്ന് നാട്ടുകാർക്ക് ഒരറിവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. തോട്ടിൽ അജ്ഞാതനായ യുവാവ് മുങ്ങിമരിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നുവെന്നു കേട്ടാണ് സ്ഥലത്തെത്തിയത്. പോലീസെത്തി മൃതദേഹം കൊണ്ടുപോയതും ഓർക്കുന്നു”.

അന്നത്തെ തോട് ഇന്ന് കാനയാണ്. ദേവസ്യക്കും അന്ന് പ്രീഡിഗ്രി പ്രായമാണ്. ദേവസ്യയുടെ പിതാവ് ജോസഫ് എന്ന ഔതയായിരുന്നു പറമ്പുടമ. അദ്ദേഹം ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പില്ല. മരണത്തിൽ സംശയമൊന്നും നാട്ടുകാർക്കിടയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ലെന്ന് മൃതദേഹം കണ്ട സമീപവാസിയായ വേലായുധനും പറയുന്നു.

പോലീസ് പരിശോധിക്കുന്നു, മരിച്ചത് ആര്

മുഹമ്മദലിയുടെ മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടൽ വേങ്ങരയിലാണ് നടന്നതെങ്കിലും വെളിപ്പെടുത്തലോടെ തിരുവമ്പാടി പോലീസിന്റെ തലവേദന തുടങ്ങി. 116/86 ആയി രജിസ്റ്റർ ചെയ്തിരുന്ന കേസ് ഫയൽ പുറത്തെടുത്ത പോലീസിന് മരിച്ചതാരെന്ന് ഇനി കണ്ടെത്തണം.

കൂടരഞ്ഞി വാതല്ലൂർ ദേവസ്യ എന്നയാളുടെ പറമ്പിൽ കൂലിപ്പണിക്കു നിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ, 14 വയസ്സു മാത്രമുള്ള തന്നെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചയാളെ തോട്ടിലേക്കു വീഴ്ത്തി എന്നാണ് മുഹമ്മദലിയുടെ മൊഴി. മുഖം കഴുകുമ്പോൾ പിന്നിൽനിന്ന് തള്ളിയിട്ട് ചവിട്ടിത്താഴ്ത്തി സ്ഥലംവിടുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നും മുഹമ്മദലി മൊഴിനൽകിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. രണ്ടുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞാണ് തോട്ടിൽ മുങ്ങി യുവാവ് മരിച്ച കാര്യം അറിയുന്നത്.

അപസ്മാരമുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ആളുടേത് സ്വാഭാവിക മരണമായേക്കാമെന്നായിരുന്നു നാട്ടുകാർ പറഞ്ഞത്. ശ്വാസകോശത്തിൽ ചെളിയും വെള്ളവും കയറിയതാണ് മരണകാരണമെന്ന് മൃതദേഹ പരിശോധനാ റിപ്പോർട്ടും വന്നു. ഇതോടെ പോലീസ് അപ്രകാരം കേസെടുത്തു. മരിച്ചയാളെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ ബന്ധുക്കളാരും എത്തിയിരുന്നില്ല. അജ്ഞാതമൃതദേഹമായി സംസ്കരിച്ച് നടപടികൾ അവസാനിപ്പിച്ചു.

കണ്ണൂർ ഇരിട്ടി സ്വദേശിയെന്നും പാലക്കാട്ടുകാരനെന്നുമൊക്കെ ആളുകൾ പറയുന്നുണ്ട്. കോഴിക്കോട് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് ഫൊറൻസിക് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിലെ പോസ്റ്റ്മോർട്ടം രേഖകൾ, കോടതി രേഖകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ പരിശോധിക്കുന്ന തിരക്കിലാണ് തിരുവമ്പാടി പോലീസ്. അന്നത്തെ പത്രവാർത്തകൾ ശേഖരിച്ചും ആർഡിഒ ഓഫീസിലെ പഴയ ഫയലുകൾ പരിശോധിച്ചും മരിച്ചത് ആരായിരിക്കുമെന്നു കണ്ടെത്താനുള്ള തീവ്രശ്രമത്തിലാണെന്ന് തിരുവമ്പാടി സ്റ്റേഷൻ ഇൻസ്പെക്ടർ കെ. പ്രജീഷ് പറഞ്ഞു.

“Disha Salian ended her life, and the postmortem report mentions no signs of sexual and/or physical assault on the deceased,” the Mumbai police said in an affidavit

Former celebrity manager Disha Salian ended her life and no foul play has been found in her death, the Mumbai police have submitted to the Bombay High Court, even as her father Satish Salian reiterated that she was gang-raped and murdered.

“Disha Salian ended her own life, and the postmortem report mentions no signs of sexual and/or physical assault on the deceased,” the police said in an affidavit filed before the High Court last month.

The former celebrity manager died on June 8, 2020 in Malad area of Mumbai. The city police had then registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR).

Satish Salian filed a petition in the HC in March this year, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his daughter’s death and an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray.

In the plea, he claimed that his daughter was found dead under mysterious circumstances in June 2020. He alleged that she was raped and murdered and subsequently there was a politically orchestrated cover-up to protect certain influential persons.

The petition came up for hearing on Wednesday (July 2, 2025) before a Bench headed by Justice A.S. Gadkari, which posted it for further hearing on July 16. The Malvani police, who probed the case first, in their affidavit, however, said Disha Salian had ended her life.

“Disha Salian was under tremendous mental stress due to a dispute with her family and also because her business deals were not working out,” said the affidavit filed by Malvani Police Station’s Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar.

“She was drunk at the time of the incident, and even her fiance, who was with her at the time, had ruled out any foul play or suspicion,” it said.

“Even her postmortem report does not indicate anything suspicion about the death,” the affidavit said.

The police also said the contentions raised by Mr. Satish Salian in his plea were baseless and unfounded. “The closure report filed by the police was based on scientific investigation conducted and the postmortem report,” they added.

“The report is conclusive in nature and mentions no signs of sexual and/or physical assault on the deceased,” the affidavit said.

It also claimed that after the closure report was filed, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up to further probe the case and even the SIT’s findings were coherent with the earlier findings of the police. “However, further investigation is still being carried out,” the affidavit said.

Mr. Satish Salian, in an application submitted on Wednesday (July 2, 2025), however, said once the information disclosing the commission of a cognisable offence is received, the police must register an FIR and then probe it.

He said the SIT has been probing a serious case of gang rape and murder without first registering an FIR, which is grossly illegal.

There has been wilful disobedience of the court order as an affidavit was sought from the Maharashtra Government’s Chief Secretary and not the police, he claimed.

Meanwhile, Aditya Thackeray has also filed an application, seeking to intervene in the matter and urged the court to grant him a hearing before passing any order.

Mr. Thackeray, in his application, claimed that the petition filed by Mr. Satish Salian was false, frivolous and motivated.

Infosys Techie Arrest News: The accused, Swapnil Nagesh from Sangli, Maharashtra, worked as a technical analyst at Infosys’s Electronics City campus in southeastern Bengaluru.

The Electronics City police said on Wednesday that they arrested a 30-year-old Infosys employee who allegedly secretly recorded videos of his female colleagues in the office washroom.

Swapnil Nagesh from Sangli, Maharashtra, who worked as a technical analyst at the company’s Electronics City campus in southeastern Bengaluru, has been charged under section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 66E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act.

The incident occurred on Monday, when he was allegedly caught red-handed after recording videos of two women.

According to the police, the primary victim discovered the violation around 11 am while using the washroom on the third floor of the IQE wing in building 38. She noticed suspicious reflections in the mirror and sensed movement from the door partition of the adjacent stall.

Upon investigation, she allegedly discovered Nagesh standing on a commode in the neighbouring stall with his mobile phone recording. When confronted, Nagesh began apologising but was quickly apprehended by two HR executives who responded to the victim’s cries for help.

HR personnel found incriminating video evidence on his phone and took screenshots before deleting the video. The police recovered two videos from the device’s recycle bin, with forensic analysis underway to determine if additional recordings exist.

Investigators revealed that Nagesh had joined the company just three months ago and had recorded another female employee before the incident described in the police complaint, which was lodged on Tuesday.

Nagesh was produced before a magistrate following his arrest, with the police continuing their investigation into the full scope of his activities.

Infosys said in a statement, “We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the Company. We also promptly supported the complainant by facilitating a swift complaint with the law enforcement authorities and continue to cooperate as they investigate further. Infosys is committed to providing an environment free of harassment and has a zero-tolerance policy. We take every complaint related to any violation of the Company’s Code of Conduct seriously.”

A Delhi court on Monday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to close Ahmed’s case, saying that the agency “exhausted all options”.

NEW DELHI: Fatima Nafis, the mother of JNU student Najeeb Ahmed who went missing in 2016, accused CBI and Delhi Police on Tuesday of “negligence” in her son’s case and said that even if she has to knock on the Supreme Court’s doors for justice, she will do it.

In a Facebook post, she said she will fight till her last breath.

A Delhi court on Monday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to close Ahmed’s case, saying that the agency “exhausted all options”.

Ahmed, a first-year student, went missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on October 15, 2016, after a scuffle with some students allegedly affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) the previous night.

The case was initially probed by Delhi Police and later transferred to the CBI.

Nafis said her fight is not just for her son, but for every mother who is seeking justice for her child.

“And if I have to go to the Supreme Court of this country, I will go there too,” she said.

“It’s been (almost) nine years since my Najeeb went missing. But the negligence shown by Delhi Police and CBI from the very first day has led to this moment — the court accepted the CBI’s closure report,” Nafis said in her post.

“Many times I ask myself. How can I give up hope? How can I let my courage break? He is my son after all. I want my son back. If I have to go to every court in this country for that, I will. I will fight till my last breath,” she said.

Neither Delhi Police nor CBI arrested or took any action against the ABVP-linked students, “the goons who assaulted my son and then made him disappear,” she charged.

Even the biggest investigative agencies and the entire judicial system have not been able to tell where my son is, Nafis said.

“For years, lies and falsehoods were spread about my son. The Delhi High Court later ordered all such content to be removed from digital and social media platforms,” she said.

Nafis, who was at the forefront of protests along with JNU students to demand a fair probe in her son’s case, praised those who stood with her.

“Their solidarity and this shared struggle give me strength. Throughout this time, when the system tried to silence us, it was students from JNU and from across the country ” from colleges and universities like AMU and Jamia” who stood with me.

These very children faced police batons on roads and raised their voices for us,” she said.

The CBI closed its investigation into the case in October 2018 as its efforts to trace Ahmed did not yield any result.

The agency filed its closure report after getting permission from the Delhi High Court.

Nafis’ counsel said earlier that this was a “political case” in which the “CBI has succumbed to the pressure of its masters”.

While it accepted the CBI’s closure report, the court granted liberty to the agency to reopen the investigation on the receipt of any credible information on Ahmed’s whereabouts and intimate the court accordingly.

Bharatiya Janata Party supporters clashed with the police and other protestors in various parts of the city on Monday, June 30, as a four-member fact-finding team of the saffron party arrived in the city

Classes have been suspended indefinitely at South Calcutta Law College (SCLC), where a student was gang-raped on June 25, as protests intensified outside the institution and in various parts of the city.

So far, four people, including two students, an ex-student, and a security guard of the college, have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang-rape.

On Sunday, SCLC authorities issued a notification that read, “All BA LLB and LLM (General and Honours) classes at South Calcutta Law College will be suspended, and the college premises will remain closed for all students until further notice as decided by the Governing Body.”

Students restive
On Monday morning, around 80 current SCLC students from various batches gathered outside the college premises, as personnel from the police and the Rapid Action Force guarded the college gates. The entry of people has been barred since the incident came to light on Friday.

Students of the law college expressed their discontent over poor security measures in the college and the uncertainty surrounding their education.

“We are feeling extremely insecure since the incident unfolded. We have been trying to call the vice principal since this morning. We finally managed to contact her in a roundabout way, but she is unwilling to come to the college. We want her to arrange a proper meeting and listen to our demands. Our education and safety have been compromised for a long time now,” Debduti Sengupta, a fifth-year SCLC student, said on behalf of the students present.

The students also read out a list of demands on campus safety as well as education.

“Our demands include immediate suspension and action against the accused students and ex-students, formation of a sexual harassment cell, installation of CCTV cameras, appointment of female security personnel, no ID card no Entry, no entry after 4pm, and installation of sanitary napkin vending machines,” the students said.

Fracas with BJP workers
On Monday (June 30, 2025) afternoon clashes erupted between the protestors and BJP workers near the protest site outside the college. When the BJP’s central fact-finding team reached the spot, they asked the police to let them into the college. The police refused to let them enter a crime scene.

‘Reclaim the Night,’ who organised rallies during the RG Kar rape and murder protests, were also present outside the college, protesting against the sexual assault on the law student. As both parties continued their slogan shouting, tensions soared. Reclaim the Night protestors raised ‘Go Back’ slogans against the BJP.

“When rapes and assaults happen in BJP-ruled states, where does the BJP fact finding committee go?” Jhelum Ray, one of the Reclaim the Night protestors, asked. This led to the BJP workers raising counter-slogans. “Maoist people go back,” the BJP workers screamed.

The BJP protestors then charged at the Reclaim the Night protestors and physically assaulted many of them. They used their helmets to hit both male and female protestors. They also used gendered slurs against the students who were part of the protests.

“Our posters were torn, they beat us, hit us with helmets, and kicked us,” a female protester who was running away from the BJP mob told The Hindu.

The Trinamool Congress condemned the violence between BJP workers and protestors outside the law college premises on Monday.

This is their definition of seeking justice. Beating women in uniform and stripping college girls of their dignity? It’s a ritual of perversion that repeats wherever the BJP sets foot,” the Trinamool posted on X on Monday evening.

Clashes with police
BJP workers also held protests across the city and State and clashed with police personnel at Alipurduar in north Bengal, and in the heart of Kolkata at Esplanade’s Dorina Crossing. The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the BJP’s student wing, conducted a sit-in at B.B. Ganguly Street near Lalbazaar (Kolkata Police headquarters).

Meanwhile, activists of the Association for the Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) sought to know why the Vice Principal Nayna Chatterji, had not been removed from her post since the incident came to light.

“It is impossible to keep the vice principal in her post, while an investigation into all the corruption and mishaps in the institution is ongoing,” their statement read.

APDR also demanded the resignation of the vice-principal and the head of the governing body of the institution.
