2025.7.8 Albouystown woman arrested for smuggling SIM cards into Camp Street Prison
A 29-year-old woman from Albouystown, Georgetown was arrested after she allegedly attempted to smuggle seven SIM cards into the Camp Street Prison for an inmate.
Shevaghn Samuels, of 11 Hogg Street, was caught on Monday during a routine search around 09:15 hrs. Prison officers discovered the SIM cards cleverly hidden inside a tube of Colgate toothpaste among items she brought for her imprisoned friend, Ray Smith.
The concealed contraband was uncovered during standard security checks. Samuels was immediately handed over to the police and is expected to appear in court shortly to face charges.
Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot, has since issued a stern warning, reminding the public about the dangers and consequences of smuggling contraband into correctional facilities.
“Such activities not only put the lives of inmates and officers at risk but also threaten the security and integrity of our entire prison system,” Elliot cautioned.
The Guyana Prison Service continues to urge citizens to desist from such illegal acts, noting that anyone caught aiding or abetting the smuggling of contraband faces severe legal penalties.
2025.7.8 Adriana Younge’s investigation remains active – Crime Chief
11-year-old Adriana Younge
An inconsolable mother

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum has disclosed that the investigation into the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge remains active.

“Detectives were advised to continue further investigation and on completion, the case file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for her legal opinion,” Blanhum said during the third edition of the programme ‘Safeguarding our Nation’ streamed on the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Facebook page on Tuesday.

Adriana was found dead in the swimming pool at the Double Day Hotel located at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) on April 24; one day after she was reported missing. Her death sparked national outrage, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the incident including the GPF’s actions following the filing of the missing person’s report.

She was laid to rest on June 22 after two autopsy reports confirmed that the cause of death was drowning, with no evidence of physical violence or sexual assault was found.

Meanwhile, during the programme, Blanhum expressed condolences to the family of Adriana.

“As a father, I also felt the heartbreak of this case. It affected us all. I wish to take this opportunity to express my sincere condolences to the family members of Adriana Younge. It was a tragic loss that shook the entire nation and we have learnt from it,” he said.

The Crime Chief noted that it is unfortunate that the incident was “hijacked by persons with sinister motives and lawless behaviour.”

He noted that, in an unusual step to ensure transparency, the post-mortem report was formally delivered to the family’s lawyer on June 16, 2025, despite the investigation still being active.

This clarification directly addresses a claim made by the family’s lawyer, reported in the media on June 24, 2025, stating that the police had failed to share the autopsy results.

However, Blanhum presented an image of a signature confirming that the autopsy report was officially delivered on June 16.

The Crime Chief disclosed that since the incident, Police Commander for the Region Three Division, Khalid Mandall, other law enforcement officers and a civilian employed at the CCTV command centre remain on administrative leave.

Mandall and the other officers were sent on leave after questions were raised about their response to the incident, while the civilian was sent on leave for allegedly providing misleading information about the child leaving the Hotel in a red Toyota Raum bearing registration number PSS 4684, influencing a subsequent police press release on the incident.

After the child’s body was discovered at the hotel’s pool, the police later released a second statement indicating that the initial report was inaccurate.

Dead: Coretta Blair Sandy
2025.6.19 Body in French Guiana: Autopsy confirms gunshot wound in Guyanese woman’s head
The mystery surrounding the death of 34-year-old Coretta Blair Sandy has deepened following the results of an autopsy conducted in French Guiana on Wednesday, which confirmed that the mother of one died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Sandy’s mother, Tricia Sandy, told this publication that her daughter’s father, who is currently in French Guiana working with police and finalising funeral arrangements, called her shortly after the post-mortem to deliver the devastating news. “He said a bullet was found lodged in her head,” the grieving mother disclosed.
The young woman’s body, which was discovered on Sunday in a swampy area near Cayenne, was in an advanced state of decomposition. Due to the condition of the remains, the family has been advised that her body cannot be transported back to Guyana. Instead, she will be laid to rest in Cayenne.
Meanwhile, Coretta Blair Sandy’s husband, who had travelled with her to French Guiana and later returned to Guyana alone, has been released from police custody. According to Tricia Sandy, they visited the Cove and John Police Station and were informed on Wednesday that the man was placed on bail and is now required to report to the station every morning.
Coretta Blair Sandy was reported missing earlier this month after she travelled to Suriname on May 29 with her husband. The woman was expected to return to Guyana within a few days. However, Coretta stopped communicating with her family, prompting her mother to raise an alarm.
According to relatives, her husband later returned to Guyana alone and allegedly gave conflicting accounts about her whereabouts. He reportedly claimed they were ambushed in Suriname and that Coretta was shot in the head, but he was unable to say exactly where the incident occurred.
A missing person’s report was filed, and the story gained public attention after her mother spoke out about the lack of urgency from authorities. “We usually talk every day. Something wasn’t right,” she had told the media.
On June 16, Tricia’s worst fears were confirmed when authorities in French Guiana found her daughter’s decomposing body near the residence she had been staying at.
The discovery intensified pressure on law enforcement in French Guiana to determine what led to her death. According to Tricia, she was told that her daughter’s husband would be held for 72 hours until there is communication from French Guiana.
She claimed that she pleaded with police to hold the man and to make contact with French Guiana authorities. The family is now calling for a thorough and transparent investigation. The mother has expressed concern over the suspect’s release.
2025.6.16 Girl, 17, dies in motorcycle incident after leaving wedding in Central Rupununi
Police in Region Nine are investigating a motorcycle accident that claimed the life of 17-year-old Kelly Raymondo of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, on Saturday night.
The tragic incident occurred sometime between 22:00 hrs and 23:30 hrs, along the Kumu Trail in Central Rupununi.
According to reports, Raymondo had been attending a wedding reception in nearby Kumu Village, where she was allegedly consuming alcohol with friends. At approximately 22:00 hrs, she reportedly left the event riding a motorcycle owned by a 25-year-old woman and proceeded south along the Kumu Trail at what has been described as a fast rate.
Investigators believe that while attempting to cross a bridge along the trail, Raymondo lost control of the motorcycle. She reportedly crashed into the western edge of the structure and fell into the water below, sustaining injuries to her head and body.
At around 23:30 hrs, a passerby discovered her motionless body in the water, with the motorcycle lying a short distance away.
The police were alerted and responded to the scene. Raymondo was transported to the Lethem Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body was later taken to the hospital’s mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
2025.6.13 Berbice man remanded for domestic violence against partner
A 25-year-old man has been remanded to prison following serious charges of domestic violence, wounding, and other offences.
Karran Sukhan of #2 Village, East Canje Berbice, appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Michelle Mathias.
During the court proceedings, Sukhan pled guilty to charges of Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Threatening Language, and Threatening Behavior against 20-year-old Joanna, which occurred on June 6th.
These charges were invoked under Section 141 (a) and Section 30 (a) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offenses) Act, Chapter 8:02.
Magistrate Mathias took a firm stance and remanded Sukhan to prison, where he will remain until his next court appearance on June 23rd.
On Thursday, Joanna took a powerful step by sharing her experience of the abuse she suffered in their six-year relationship on Facebook, seeking urgent assistance.
In an emotional and detailed Facebook post, Joanna, who recently fled the abusive household with her two children, recounted the evolution of her relationship with Sukhan — from romance in 2018 to repeated brutality by 2019.
Despite filing five separate reports with the police, Joanna said she was met with indifference and ridicule. One officer at the New Amsterdam Police Station, she claimed, went as far as to blame her for staying.
Region Six Police Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus has since assured the public that disciplinary actions will be taken against the officer in question and that every effort is being made to apprehend Sukhan.
Following her post, action was taken, and Sukhan was arrested and now faces the consequences of his actions.

2025.6.5 Chinese businessman robbed of cash by juveniles with gun in D’Urban Backlands
A 60-year-old Chinese businessman was robbed of $70,000 in cash on Wednesday evening during a daring attack at his business place, WF Fast Food Restaurant, located in D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown.
The incident occurred around 18:55 hrs and involved four suspects — two males and two females — all of African descent and believed to be juveniles. Police are now investigating the matter as a case of Robbery with Aggravation.
According to reports, the victim, Zhao Pe Lizhan, was seated inside the building behind the counter when the four suspects entered the premises and approached him. In a calculated move, one male and one female suspect held onto the businessman’s neck and hand, while the remaining two made their way to the cash register and emptied it of the day’s sales, amounting to $70,000 in Guyanese currency.
The group then fled the scene, escaping westward into the D’Urban Backlands area.
The Guyana Police Force has since processed the crime scene and is currently reviewing CCTV footage from the establishment in an effort to identify and apprehend the suspects.
No arrests have been made at this time, and investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with information that may assist the police is encouraged to come forward.

The accused have been identified as 22-year-old Shawn Prince, an auto bodywork technician of Lusignan, and 26-year-old Nick Sumair, a construction worker of Good Hope Phase 2—both from the East Coast of Demerara.
2025.6.5 Two ECD men remanded after caught sleeping with stolen car in Lusignan backlands
Two men accused of hijacking a taxi and assaulting its driver were on Wednesday remanded to prison after appearing before the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
The accused have been identified as 22-year-old Shawn Prince, an auto bodywork technician of Lusignan, and 26-year-old Nick Sumair, a construction worker of Good Hope Phase 2—both from the East Coast of Demerara.
The men were arrested on Sunday night (June 1) and later charged with robbery under arms, contrary to Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. The charge relates to the attack on 29-year-old Kumar Isree, a taxi driver from Bushlot Village, West Coast Berbice.
According to reports, Prince and Sumair were caught by police while sleeping in the very vehicle they had stolen. The car was discovered in the Lusignan backlands, partially covered with a tarpaulin and already stripped of several parts.
Investigations revealed that the men had hired the taxi driver on Sunday afternoon at Bath Settlement for a trip to Mahaica. However, during the journey, they reportedly brandished a firearm, threatened the driver, and instructed him to continue driving. Upon reaching a secluded area in Lusignan, the men allegedly tied up the driver, assaulted him, and dumped him out of the vehicle before fleeing with it.
Fortunately, the driver managed to untie himself and sought help from a passerby, who lent him a phone to contact his relatives and alert authorities.
2025.5.30 Suspect in burglary at Young Professional Scheme shot, apprehended by cops
The suspect in the theft of an undisclosed amount of cash in the Young Professional Scheme at Providence, East Bank Demerara on Thursday, has been apprehended by the police following an exchange of gunfire.
The News Room understands that the suspect was apprehended at the Mocha to Diamond Access Road, EBD, in the vicinity of the police outpost in his Toyota Vitz PAG 5216. It is alleged that upon seeing the police ranks, he opened fire on them; the ranks returned fire, injuring the suspect.
He is currently hospitalised under police guard and his name is Mark Andrews.
The News Room understands that on Thursday, May 29, the suspect jumped the fence of a resident in the community, entered his house via a window and carted off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The resident, who spoke with the News Room, said security cameras show when the suspect circled the area multiple times the day prior to the incident. On the day of the incident, he drove around twice and then parked the vehicle in front of an empty lot before jumping over the fence.
Multiple cameras in the community captured his vehicle and identified the license plate.
2025.5.28 Fluid, foam & swelling all confirm drowning in Adriana Younge’s death – signed pathology report
The final autopsy report for 11-year-old Adriana Younge has confirmed that she died by drowning, dispelling lingering concerns of foul play.
The signed report, released on Wednesday and conducted by a team of three pathologists – Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul, Dr. Glenn Rudner and Dr. Gary L. Collins, at the Georgetown Public Hospital on April 28 was supported by postmortem imaging, photographs, and videography.
Their unified opinion was that drowning was the cause of death, with no evidence of trauma or foul play.
The final autopsy report revealed lung and airway conditions that paint a clear picture of death by drowning.
Her lungs were “crepitant with oedema and congestion,” a classic postmortem indicator of drowning. The presence of bilateral pleural effusions — with over 400 ml of fluid pooled in her chest cavities — and a cone of residual foam in her nostrils and mouth further confirmed the cause of death.
In their findings, the three pathologists emphasized that the lung evidence supports drowning, not suffocation or blunt force trauma. “There is no evidence of strangulation or inhalation of other substances,” the report stated.
The foam and fluid patterns aligned with Adriana being alive at the time she entered the water — underscoring that this was not a postmortem submersion.
The child was last seen near a hotel pool on April 23, 2025, and was discovered floating in the water the following morning. Public speculation followed, fueled by the tragic circumstances, but the postmortem examination found classic signs of drowning, including foam in the airways, water in the lungs, and “washerwoman” skin changes on the hands and feet.
“The ethanol levels found are attributed to postmortem decomposition,” the report notes, ruling out intoxication.
Additionally, “no DNA from potential suspects” was detected, and there were “no antemortem injuries.”
The comprehensive assessment leaves little doubt in the minds of the examining pathologists: in their expert opinion, Adriana drowned.

2025.5.28 Pensioner murdered during robbery at Lusignan
Police are investigating an early morning robbery and murder that claimed the life of 70-year-old Deonarine, a male pensioner, at his Lusignan Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara home on Wednesday.
According to investigators, the incident occurred around 3:30 hrs at the one-storey wooden home where Deonarine lived with his reputed wife, a 69-year-old fellow pensioner. The assailants are believed to be two men dressed entirely in black with their faces concealed by ski masks.
The wife recounted that she woke around 1:30 hrs to begin her morning chores in the kitchen. After returning from the washroom, where she had left the hallway door open, she was confronted by the masked intruders. One of the suspects reportedly choked her while the other bound her hands and feet before locking her inside the washroom.
She later heard Deonarine calling out for her, followed by the sound of a struggle. When the commotion subsided, she managed to free herself and discovered her husband lying motionless in the hallway. She immediately contacted her brother, who alerted the police.
Ranks arrived on the scene at approximately 6:30 hrs. A search of the premises revealed that GY$800,000 in cash had been stolen — $500,000 from under a bed and $300,000 from a black bag in the bedroom.
While Deonarine’s body showed no visible signs of violence, investigators collected DNA swabs from his hands as part of ongoing forensic analysis. His body has since been taken to Memorial Gardens Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is pending.
Police are actively pursuing leads to locate the suspects as the investigation continues.

2025.5.23 Cuban sales rep hacked to death, stepfather surrenders to police carrying bloodied weapon

Police have launched a murder investigation into the brutal killing of 21-year-old Cuban national, Davely Morales, who was allegedly hacked to death early Friday morning by her stepfather at their residence on Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

The tragic incident unfolded at approximately 07:00 hrs at Lot 56 Pike Street, where Morales lived with her family. According to law enforcement, the suspect – 40-year-old Wispriey Alfonso, also a Cuban national – is now in Police custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Morales, who had recently arrived in Guyana about a month ago with her mother, Milaysi Rodrigues (38), her nine-year-old sister, and the suspect, was employed as a sales representative. The family had been renting an apartment at the aforementioned address.

Police reports indicate that the horror began when another tenant in the apartment building was startled by the sound of a woman screaming. Upon investigating, the tenant discovered the door to Apartment #1 ajar and witnessed Alfonso standing over Rodrigues in the living room, attacking her with a chopper.

The tenant also saw Davely Morales lying beside her mother, bleeding profusely from multiple chop wounds. Despite her grave injuries, Morales managed to rise and flee the apartment, only to collapse moments later in the walkway. Alfonso reportedly fled the scene shortly thereafter.

Emergency Medical Technicians from the Central Fire Station were swiftly dispatched and arrived at the scene. Morales was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), while Rodrigues was rushed to the same facility for emergency treatment. She remains hospitalised in serious condition, suffering multiple chop wounds.

A preliminary examination of Morales’ body revealed several gruesome injuries, including deep lacerations to her hands, the back of her head, and jaw. Her body was subsequently transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is pending.

In a shocking turn of events, Alfonso later surrendered to authorities at the Kitty Police Station, carrying the alleged murder weapon – a chopper still stained with what appeared to be blood. He was promptly arrested and remains in custody.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and Police have not yet disclosed a motive for the attack.

2025.5.23 Brazilian charged for illegal gold possession granted $75,000 bail
A Brazilian national has been charged following a major intelligence-led operation by the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) targeting illicit gold smuggling in Guyana’s hinterland regions.
Osmil Costa Da Silva of 111 Mile, Mahdia, Region Eight, was formally charged on Friday, 23 May 2025, with Possession of Gold by Person not being a Producer, contrary to the Guyana Gold Board Act, Chapter 66:01.
Da Silva appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court #1 before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty, where the charge was read. He entered a plea of not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of GY$75,000. The matter has been transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court, where it will next be heard on 20 June 2025.
The charge stems from a joint intelligence operation executed by SOCU on Wednesday, 21 May, in Central Mahdia. Officers arrested Da Silva at his business establishment, Filhao Shop, located in Region Eight. Authorities seized a substantial quantity of raw gold, mining equipment, documents, and over GY$17 million in cash during the raid.
According to SOCU Head, Deputy Commissioner Fazil Karimbaksh, the operation successfully disrupted an alleged smuggling network before the gold could be moved across Guyana’s borders. He noted the operation as part of SOCU’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal gold trade and protect the nation’s mineral wealth.

2025.5.22 Kenesha Vaughn case adjourned to June 13
From L-R: Marlan DaSilva and Kenesha Vaughn

Marlan DaSilva, the city businessman who is charged with the brutal murder of his partner, Kenesha Vaughn remains on remand and is expected to make his next court appearance on June 13.

The case was called on Thursday morning before Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

During the proceedings, the prosecution disclosed that it was filing its last set of statements. This now means there is full disclosure of statements from the prosecution.

DaSilva is awaiting a preliminary inquiry (PI). This is a judicial hearing held in the Magistrate’s Court for serious offences such as murder. It is not a trial itself.

The PI in DaSilva case is being done via a “paper committal”. In legal terms, a “paper committal” is where a magistrate reviews written evidence and arguments, rather than conducting a traditional in-person committal hearing, to determine if an accused person should be committed for trial.

For this to be done, the defence has to file statements from witnesses in the case.

To do this, attorney Latchmie Rahamat told the court that the defence would need at least 21 days.

So, the case was adjourned to June 13 for statements from defence.

The magistrate also urged the defence to utilise this date to disclose any exhibits they wish to tender in the case.

DaSilva is accused of killing his partner on the evening of February 22 at their Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara house, shortly after returning home.

According to a Police report, DaSilva and Vaughn had an argument during which the businessman reportedly slapped her. In retaliation, Police said Vaughn reportedly reached for a knife and approached the suspect.

It was at this point that DaSilva pulled out his licensed firearm from the waist of his pants and discharged several rounds in Vaughn’s direction, hitting her about the body.

Police ranks were later contacted, and Vaughn was taken to the Diamond Hospital, where she died while receiving treatment. The incident was captured on CCTV footage which has since been admitted as evidence.

2025.5.22 Businessman Randy Jagdeo on $350K bail for inciting treason
Businessman – 39-year-old Randy Jagdeo of Alexander Village – has been charged with inciting persons to commit treason, following a controversial Facebook post and inflammatory signage at his retail business. The charge stems from an alleged violation under Section 314 of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
Jagdeo was arrested on Wednesday by detectives and brought before the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court this morning, where he faced Magistrate Bess. The court heard that Jagdeo’s actions, both online and in physical signage, were considered by authorities to have potentially seditious implications, particularly relating to the sensitive territorial issue of the Essequibo region.
During the hearing, the Prosecutor strongly objected to bail, citing the gravity of the charge and the broader implications for national security. However, the Magistrate granted Jagdeo bail in the sum of $350,000, imposing strict conditions: he must report to the head of the Police Cyber Crimes Unit at Eve Leary on the third Friday of every month, refrain from any activity on social media platforms, and lodge his passport with the court. The case has been adjourned until June 16.
Jagdeo has faced intense backlash from the public following a Facebook comment in which he declared that Essequibo belongs to Venezuela—a highly provocative and factually incorrect statement, given that the region is internationally recognised as part of Guyana. Public outrage intensified after it was revealed that his business, the ‘Thousand Dollar Store’ located on the East Bank of Demerara, had displayed signage featuring the official ‘One Guyana’ logo paired with a map that conspicuously excluded the Essequibo region.
2025.5.19 Bandits to repay Chinese Supermarket owner

Two robbers who held the owner of West Bank Berbice Chinese Supermarket at gunpoint have agreed to repay him after admitting guilt in court.

On Monday, Berbice Magistrate Michelle Matthias granted bail to Cleveland Sears, a 24-year-old construction worker from South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, and his 17-year-old accomplice, who appeared virtually in the Blairmont Magistrates Court.

The Magistrate ordered probation reports for both defendants, which revealed their troubled backgrounds. The teenager reportedly had a history of theft from family and was dismissed from a lemonade factory for stealing money.

As part of the proceedings, attorneys Ronald Daniels and Kevin Morgan advocated for restitution, with Sears showing a willingness to pay $500,000 to the victim.

The Chinese owner agreed to settle for $600,000.

Magistrate Matthias emphasised the importance of accountability and directed both offenders to apologise not only to the victim but also to their families when possible.

Subsequently, both the offenders apologised to the victim.

Ultimately, both individuals were released on their recognisance but must participate in counseling programs provided by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

They are required to return to court on June 27 for an update on their counselling and restitution progress.

The robbery occurred on April 9 at the Sweet Life Supermarket located at Rosignol Village, West Bank Berbice.

During the incident, Sears and the teenager were armed with a firearm and a knife. They demanded cash as the supermarket was closing. They successfully stole $500,000 in cash and $400,000 worth of phone cards.

Following the robbery, authorities were notified, and an examination of the crime scene led to the duo’s arrest after CCTV footage identified them.

Confronted with the evidence, they confessed during audio and video interviews, with authorities recovering $7,800 and clothing matching that seen in the footage.

Sears claimed that the firearm was a toy and indicated that the teenager suggested they could make quick money by robbing the supermarket.

The robbers were charged and remanded on April 14 after pleading guilty.

2025.5.13 Smythfield man remanded over fatal NA chopping incident
Eubeern Bristol, also known as ‘Eusie’, 39, a labourer

A Smythfield, New Amsterdam man was remanded to prison after he was charged with the murder of 44-year-old Leon Fordyce called ‘nastyman’ on Tuesday.

Eubeern Bristol, also known as ‘Eusie’, 39, appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.

The court was informed that on Sunday, May 4, at High Dam, Caracas Village, West Canje, Bristol, alongside another individual, was involved in the murder of Fordyce.

Bristol was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

Edwards confirmed that once this suspect is apprehended, further investigations will be conducted, and the case file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

In response to inquiries from Bristol’s lawyer, Sasha Robertson, who participated virtually, Edwards addressed the outcome of the case should the police fail to arrest the other suspect. He ensured the court that there would be no impediment to advancing with the matter as planned.

Edwards requested an extension of three weeks for obtaining statements, which Magistrate Matthias granted.

Bristol has been remanded to prison, and the case is scheduled to be reviewed on June 9.

On the day in question, 35-year-old Seon La Fleur, also known as “Shawn,” was arguing with 44-year-old Angelisha Newyear, accompanied by Neon De Jonge Bristol. The dispute revolved around threats made against Newyear’s 26-year-old son, Gregory De Jonge.

The argument escalated, and during the confrontation, Shawn stabbed Newyear in the abdomen.

In a separate incident, Leon Fordyce reportedly received a blow to the head and was pronounced at New Amsterdam Hospital.

Upon hearing about the altercation, Gregory De Jonge rushed to the scene and attacked Shawn with a machete before fleeing the area.

It is noted that Angelisha Newyear had a relationship with Leon Fordyce.

This publication understands that Fordyce was in the process of closing his shop when he was viciously attacked.

Shortly before the incident, Shawn’s mother, 50-year-old Nicola Christine La Fleur, spoke with her son. She later received a distressing call about the situation.

When she rushed outside, she found Shawn unresponsive on the road, suffering from a severe head wound.

When asked about the motive behind these tragic events, Nicola revealed that her son was troubled about the paternity of a two-month-old child.

Reports indicate that both Shawn and Gregory have been named as the fathers of the child.

On May 9, 2025, Gregory was charged and remanded to prison for the murder of La Fleur.
