2026.8.18 নোয়াখালীতে ড্রামে ফেলে নবজাতককে হত্যা, মায়ের বিরুদ্ধে মামলা
নোয়াখালীর বেগমগঞ্জে ১৪ দিন বয়সী এক নবজাতককে বৃষ্টির পানি সংরক্ষণের প্লাস্টিকের ড্রামে ফেলে হত্যার ঘটনায় মায়ের বিরুদ্ধে মামলা হয়েছে।
মঙ্গলবার (১৮ আগস্ট) এ ঘটনায় নিহত শিশুর বাবা সৌরভ হোসেন বাদী হয়ে বেগমগঞ্জ থানায় হত্যা মামলা দায়ের করেছেন। মামলায় একমাত্র আসামি করা হয়েছে নিহতের মা ফাতেমা বেগমকে (১৯)।
এর আগে, সোমবার সন্ধ্যার দিকে উপজেলার মিরওয়ারিশপুর ইউনিয়নের ৪ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের মজুমদারহাট সংলগ্ন বাজার বাড়ির সৌরভের ঘরে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। পরে একই দিন রাত ১০টার দিকে বসতঘরে রাখা একটি বৃষ্টির পানি সংরক্ষণের ড্রাম থেকে ওই শিশুর মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়।
নিহত নবজাতক ওই বাড়ির সৌরভ হোসেনের ছেলে। গ্রেপ্তার ফাতেমা বেগম বেগমগঞ্জের নরোত্তমপুর ইউনিয়নের শরীফ উল্যার মেয়ে।
স্থানীয়রা জানান, ২০২৫ সালের নভেম্বরে প্রেমের সম্পর্কের পর সৌরভের সঙ্গে ফাতেমার বিয়ে হয়। এরপর থেকেই তাদের দাম্পত্য জীবনে কলহ চলছিল। সোমবার সন্ধ্যা থেকে নবজাতক নিখোঁজ হলে পরিবারের সদস্যরা ফাতেমাকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করেন। প্রথমে তিনি দাবি করেন, পেছন থেকে তাকে মাথায় আঘাত করে কে বা কারা শিশুটিকে নিয়ে গেছে। পরে বলেন, জিনে নিয়ে গেছে। এতে পরিবারের সদস্যদের সন্দেহ হয়। পরে খোঁজাখুজির একপর্যায়ে রাত ১০টার দিকে ঘরে থাকা বৃষ্টির পানি সংরক্ষণের একটি প্লাস্টিকের ড্রাম থেকে নবজাতকের মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়।
পুলিশ জানায়, জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের একপর্যায়ে ফাতেমা সন্তানকে ড্রামের পানিতে ফেলে হত্যার কথা স্বীকার করেন। নবজাতক জ্বালাতন করত,ঘুম যেতনা, অতিরিক্ত কান্নাকাটি করত, মাকে ঘুম যেতে দিতনা বলে প্লাস্টিকের ড্রামের মধ্যে পেলে তাকে হত্যা করেন।
বেগমগঞ্জ থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. শামসুজ্জামান বলেন, নবজাতককে পানিতে ফেলে হত্যার অভিযোগে তার মাকে ঘটনার পরপরই পুলিশ হেফাজতে নেওয়া হয়েছে। ঘটনাটি তদন্ত করে পরবর্তী মাকে একমাত্র আসামি করে মামলা নেওয়া হয়।
অপর এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে ওসি মো. শামসুজ্জামান আরও বলেন, নবজাতকের মা তাকে বসতঘরে থাকা বৃষ্টি পানি রাখার ড্রামে ফেলে মুখ বন্ধ করে দেন। এতে নবজাতকের মৃত্যু হয়। পরে নিহতের বাবা বাদী হয়ে হত্যা মামলা দায়ের করে। ওই মামলায় আসামিকে গ্রেপ্তার দেখিয়ে নোয়াখালী চীফ জুডিশিয়াল ম্যাজিস্টেট আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হবে।

A Faridpur tribunal on Tuesday sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the gang rape of a Class-IX schoolgirl in Boalmari upazila in 2020.
Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abul Bashar Mia handed down the verdict.
The convicts are Nasir Molla, 26, of Babukhali village in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura, Saikat Chandra, 26, of Lankar Char area in Boalmari, and another Nasir Molla, 36, of the same area.
The court also fined each of them Tk 1 lakh, in default of which they will have to serve an additional year in jail.
According to the prosecution, the victim, then a Class-IX student, had become acquainted with Nasir Molla, 26, through mobile phone.
Nasir called the girl to an orchard of Jibon Mondal near her house around 8:00pm on January 28, 2020. When she arrived there, the accused allegedly forcibly took her to a boat on the Madhumati River and then to a nearby sandbar.
The three men allegedly raped her there in turns after threatening her with dire consequences. They also allegedly recorded videos and took photographs of the incident.
When the girl fell seriously ill, the accused allegedly took her back by boat and left her near her home at around 11pm before fleeing.
The girl later told her parents and relatives about the incident. Her family filed a case with Boalmari Police Station on January 29, 2020.
চাঁদপুরের মতলব দক্ষিণে পৃথক মাদকবিরোধী অভিযান চালিয়ে ৫২ পিস ইয়াবাসহ তিনজনকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে থানা পুলিশ। এছাড়া মোবাইল কোর্টের পৃথক অভিযানে এক পুরিয়া গাঁজাসহ একজনকে আটক করা হয়। পরে তাকে এক মাসের কারাদণ্ড ও এক হাজার টাকা জরিমানা করা হয়েছে। সব মিলিয়ে মাদক-সংক্রান্ত ঘটনায় চারজনের বিরুদ্ধে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়েছে।
পুলিশ জানায়, চট্টগ্রাম রেঞ্জ ডিআইজি আবদুল কুদ্দুছ চৌধুরী, পিপিএম-এর ঘোষিত মাদকবিরোধী ‘জিরো টলারেন্স’ নীতির আলোকে এবং মতলব দক্ষিণ থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ (ওসি) হাফিজুর রহমান মানিকের সার্বিক দিকনির্দেশনায় এসব অভিযান পরিচালনা করা হয়।
থানা পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, এসআই (নিরস্ত্র) সুজিত চন্দ্র দে সঙ্গীয় অফিসার ও ফোর্স নিয়ে নারায়ণপুর গরু বাজার সংলগ্ন এলাকায় অভিযান পরিচালনা করেন। এ সময় বোরহান উদ্দিন নামে এক ব্যক্তিকে ১০ পিস ইয়াবাসহ গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। তিনি মাছুয়াখাল গ্রামের মৃত আব্দুল মান্নানের ছেলে এবং বর্তমানে নারায়ণপুর এলাকায় বসবাস করেন।
এ ঘটনায় মতলব দক্ষিণ থানায় এফআইআর নং-১৯, তারিখ ১৬ আগস্ট ২০২৬ এবং জিআর নং-১৮৬-এর মাধ্যমে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন, ২০১৮-এর ৩৬(১) সারণির ১০(ক) ধারায় মামলা করা হয়েছে।
অন্যদিকে, এসআই (নিরস্ত্র) ইমতিয়াজ কবীর সঙ্গীয় ফোর্সসহ মতলব পৌরসভার কলাদী এলাকায় অভিযান পরিচালনা করেন। অভিযানে পূর্ব কলাদী জামে মসজিদ সংলগ্ন একটি তিনতলা বাসার সামনে থেকে জিহাদ তালুকদার হৃদয় (২৬) নামে একজনকে ৩২ পিস ইয়াবাসহ গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। তিনি কলাদী এলাকার মৃত তাজুল ইসলাম তালুকদারের ছেলে।
এ ঘটনায় মতলব দক্ষিণ থানায় এফআইআর নং-২০, তারিখ ১৬ আগস্ট ২০২৬ এবং জিআর নং-১৮৭-এর মাধ্যমে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন, ২০১৮-এর ৩৬(১) সারণির ১০(ক) ধারায় মামলা করা হয়েছে।
এছাড়া নারায়ণপুর এলাকায় পৃথক আরেকটি মাদকবিরোধী অভিযানে ডাটিকারা এলাকার জনৈক হুমায়ুন কবীরের খাবার হোটেলের সামনে সড়ক থেকে মো. রফিক নামে একজনকে ১০ পিস ইয়াবাসহ গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। তিনি সারপাড় (কালা গাজী প্রধানিয়া বাড়ি) এলাকার ইদ্রিস ছিডুর ছেলে।
এ ঘটনায় মতলব দক্ষিণ থানায় এফআইআর নং-২১, তারিখ ১৭ আগস্ট ২০২৬ এবং জিআর নং-১৮৮-এর মাধ্যমে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন, ২০১৮-এর ৩৬(১) সারণির ১০(ক) ধারায় মামলা করা হয়েছে।
অপরদিকে, ১৬ আগস্ট ২০২৬ তারিখে মতলব দক্ষিণ থানা পুলিশ ও মতলব উপজেলা প্রশাসনের যৌথ উদ্যোগে পরিচালিত মোবাইল কোর্টে আয়নাল হক মিয়াজী (২৫) নামে এক ব্যক্তিকে এক পুরিয়া গাঁজাসহ আটক করা হয়। তিনি নারায়ণপুর এলাকার আব্দুল আলীর ছেলে। পরে মোবাইল কোর্ট তাকে এক মাসের বিনাশ্রম কারাদণ্ড এবং এক হাজার টাকা জরিমানা করেন।
পুলিশ আরও জানায়, গ্রেপ্তার ব্যক্তিদের বিরুদ্ধে পৃথক মামলা দায়ের করে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের পর তাদের বিজ্ঞ আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়েছে।
মতলব দক্ষিণ থানার পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয়েছে, মাদকদ্রব্যের বিস্তার রোধ এবং মাদক ব্যবসা ও সেবনের সঙ্গে জড়িতদের বিরুদ্ধে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা নিতে পুলিশের অভিযান অব্যাহত থাকবে।

Police seize firearm after viral video shows Jubayer Hossain Bappi walking along a main road in a white shroud
A former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader has been taken into police custody in Pabna’s Ishwardi after a video showing him walking along a main road with a firearm while dressed in a white shroud went viral on social media.
Police also seized the firearm to verify its licence and investigate the incident. They will take legal action based on the findings and seek cancellation of the firearm licence, police said.
The man, identified as Jubayer Hossain Bappi, 35, of Bokuler More in Ishwardi municipality, marched from his home yesterday afternoon carrying the firearm.
When he approached Ishwardi Police Station, a rival group staged a counter-march. Bappi then entered the police station and handed over the firearm and surrendered to police.
Police subsequently took him into custody and sent him to the Pabna Detective Branch for questioning today, said Pranab Kumar, additional superintendent of police of Ishwardi Circle.
Bappi’s political supporters said he was protesting against drugs and crime and had intended to surrender his firearm at the police station.
Pabna district BNP convener Habibur Rahman defended Bappi in a Facebook live session, saying the incident had been misrepresented to defame him. He also referred to Bappi as a former JCD leader. Bappi is known locally as a supporter of Habibur.
However, Advocate Masud Khandakar, secretary of the Pabna district BNP, said no one had the right to publicly display a licensed firearm in such a manner.
“Existing law does not permit such actions, so measures should be taken according to the law. There is no scope to violate the law, even if he is from our party,” he told The Daily Star.
Ishwardi BNP has long been divided between factions led by Habibur and expelled leader Jakaria Pintu, who contested the last parliamentary election against the party’s nominated candidate.
Locals, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that Bappi, a supporter of Habibur, staged the armed demonstration to intimidate the rival faction. Tensions remained high in the area following the incident.
Police are investigating how Bappi obtained the firearm licence and why he displayed the weapon in public, said Additional SP Pranab Kumar.
Bappi remained in police custody as of filing this report at 5:50pm.
2026.8.18 690 inmates escaped after July Uprising still at large, 166 unidentified: IG prisons
Most of the 2,240 inmates who escaped from jails during the uprising have since been arrested
As many as 690 inmates who escaped from jails across the country during the July Uprising remain at large, while the identities of 166 of them are yet to be confirmed, said Inspector General of Prisons Syed Muhammad Motahar Hussain at a press briefing today.
A total of 2,240 prisoners escaped from different prisons during the uprising, he said, adding that most of them have since been arrested.
The identities of 166 prisoners who escaped from Narsingdi jail could not be confirmed as prison records, including servers and databases, were damaged during attacks and arson, according to the IG prisons.
Nine of the escapees were accused in cases involving militancy. Six of them have since been arrested, while three remain at large.
Of the six arrested, one, identified as Juel, was granted bail but was recently arrested again, according to the IG prisons.
The other escapees included convicted prisoners and accused awaiting trial in various cases, he added.
The IG prisons said the responsibility for arresting the fugitives rests with law enforcement agencies, while prison authorities are providing them with information and other necessary assistance.
Officials said the 166 unidentified escapees have made the task of tracking down the remaining fugitives more difficult, as their names, addresses and case details are unavailable.
2026.8.18 Over 500 birds killed, man fined Tk 500
A man was fined Tk 500 after over 500 birds of different species were killed by poisoned bait scattered in a rice field in Madna village in Darshana, Chuadanga’s Damurhuda upazila, on Sunday night.
Rajon, 25, was fined under the Wildlife Conservation Act and made to sign an undertaking that he would not engage in such activities again.
According to local residents and the mobile court, Rajon, from Uttar Parain Madna village, had scattered poisoned rice in his field. At least 500 birds died after eating the bait.
Following the incident, angry locals informed the Damurhuda upazila administration, which conducted a raid in the village that night.
Shaheen Alam, assistant commissioner (land) of Damurhuda upazila and an executive magistrate, led the operation and fined Rajon Tk 500 under the Wildlife Conservation Act. The upazila forest officer and members of law enforcement agencies assisted with the operation.
Damurhuda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Lovely Yesmin said she sent a magistrate to the scene after receiving information from local residents. “However, before the magistrate arrived, many of the dead birds had already been removed.”
She added that drives against wildlife killing and other activities harmful to the environment and biodiversity would continue.
The total value of the stolen goods and other belongings was estimated at Tk1.15 crore.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) of Chattogram has identified at least 10 groups involved in crimes while posing as law enforcement personnel in the port city and other parts of the country.
After a six-month investigation into the abduction and robbery of a gold trader by a gang posing as Detective Branch (DB) officers, the PBI arrested one of its key members.
The arrested, Md Saju Miah, 37, is a resident of Sreepur Union in Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha. A PBI team arrested him from Dhaka’s Golapbagh area on the night of 16 August.
PBI Chattogram Superintendent of Police SM Rafiqul Islam disclosed the information at a press conference at the PBI Chattogram office today (18 August).
He said investigators had monitored the gang’s movements for six months after the case was transferred to the PBI.
Several operations were conducted across different districts, but Saju Miah evaded arrest until he was finally arrested in Dhaka’s Golapbagh on 16 August.
The officer said Saju changed his SIM card at least 20 times and frequently changed locations to evade technology-based tracking.
He said the PBI was now working to arrest other members of the gang.
The PBI said Saju had given a confessional statement before a court, naming five to six others allegedly involved in the crime.
According to the case documents, victim Pulak Das, 45, owns Nabarupa Shilpalay, a jewellery shop on the second floor of Hazari Market in Chattogram’s Hazari Lane.
On the night of 29 September 2024, Pulak was returning home after selling jewellery, carrying cash and unsold gold. At around 9:45pm, several men wearing DB police uniforms intercepted him near the underground area of the Central Shaheed Minar on KC Dey Road.
The men identified themselves as DB officers, surrounded him and immobilised him with his hands behind his back. When he shouted for help, one of them covered his mouth with a washcloth.
The men then blindfolded Pulak, gagged him with a washcloth and forced him into a microbus. The PBI said they beat him inside the vehicle, tied his hands and legs with a washcloth and took him to an unknown location.
They took a black bag from the victim containing gold jewellery and cash, an Omega wristwatch and a OnePlus 10R mobile phone.
The bag contained Tk17.90 lakh in cash and over 77 bhori of gold jewellery, according to the case statement.
The total value of the stolen goods and other belongings was estimated at Tk1.15 crore.
The perpetrators later took Pulak to the Boro Darogarhat Scale area under Sitakunda Police Station and left him by the roadside with his hands and legs tied.
Pulak filed a case with Kotwali Police Station on 8 October 2024 against unidentified individuals.
The case was initially investigated by Kotwali police before being transferred to the PBI’s Chattogram unit following an application by the complainant and a court order.
After taking over the investigation, PBI officials reviewed CCTV footage and traced the stolen phone, eventually recovering it from Mirsarai’s Govonia area.
Analysing CCTV footage, technological data and records from various cases, investigators identified Saju Miah’s alleged involvement and conducted operations in Gaibandha, Dhaka, Madaripur and several other places to arrest him.
However, he repeatedly changed locations and evaded arrest until a PBI team led by Sub-Inspector Abdur Rashid arrested him in Dhaka’s Golapbagh at around 8:30pm on 16 August, according to the PBI.
He was produced before a court the following day and voluntarily gave a confessional statement.
PBI Chattogram SP SM Rafiqul Islam said the agency had identified at least 10 gangs involved in crimes while posing as law enforcement personnel in Chattogram and elsewhere in the country.
“Work is underway to identify and arrest members of these gangs,” he said.
He said the case was the first among such cases transferred to PBI Chattogram in which an alleged gang member had been arrested after a six-month investigation.
The PBI official urged people to remain alert against individuals falsely claiming to be law enforcement personnel.
He advised people to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a law enforcement officer by contacting the emergency service 999 or the local police station.
He also urged people not to accompany strangers posing as law enforcers who attempt to detain, question or search them without first verifying their identities.
The PBI said operations were underway to identify and arrest the remaining suspects based on information provided by Saju in his confessional statement. Their names have not been disclosed in the interest of the investigation.
Investigators also found that Saju faces at least three cases involving similar crimes, in which he was accused of posing as a law enforcement officer.
গোপালগঞ্জে মাদকবিরোধী অভিযানে ৫০ পিস ইয়াবাসহ ইয়াসিন মোল্যা (৩৪) নামে এক ব্যক্তিকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তর। এ ঘটনায় তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে গোপালগঞ্জ সদর থানায় নিয়মিত মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে।

অধিদপ্তর সূত্রে জানা যায়, হরিদাসপুর ফকিরপাড়া গ্রামের ইয়াসিন মোল্যার নিজ দখলীয় বসতঘরে অভিযান চালিয়ে ৫০ পিস ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট উদ্ধার করা হয়। এ সময় ইয়াসিন মোল্যাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
গ্রেপ্তার ইয়াসিন মোল্যা হরিদাসপুর ফকিরপাড়া গ্রামের মৃত জবর আলী মোল্যার ছেলে। তাঁর মায়ের নাম ছবেদা বেগম। তিনি গোপালগঞ্জ সদর থানার হরিদাসপুর ফকিরপাড়া গ্রামের বাসিন্দা।
অভিযান শেষে উদ্ধার করা ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট জব্দ করা হয়। পরে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তরের পরিদর্শক মোহাম্মদ খোরশেদ আলম বাদী হয়ে ইয়াসিন মোল্যার বিরুদ্ধে গোপালগঞ্জ সদর থানায় মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে নিয়মিত মামলা দায়ের করেন।
মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তর জানিয়েছে, অবৈধ মাদকদ্রব্যের বিস্তার রোধে তাদের অভিযান ও আইনগত কার্যক্রম অব্যাহত থাকবে।

নোয়াখালীর চাটখিলে মাদকের বিস্তার রোধে পরিচালিত বিশেষ এক অভিযানে ইয়াবা, গাঁজা, মাদক বিক্রির নগদ অর্থ ও সেবনের নানা সরঞ্জামসহ ১০ জনকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।

গত রবিবার (১৬ আগস্ট) বিকেলে চাটখিল পৌরসভার বাজার এলাকার মাছ বাজারে এ সাঁড়াশি অভিযান পরিচালিত হয়।
পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, গোপন তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে চাটখিল থানা পুলিশের একটি চৌকস দল পৌর মাছ বাজার এলাকায় ঝটিকা অভিযান চালায়। অভিযানে মাদক কেনাবেচা এবং সেবনের সঙ্গে সরাসরি জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগে ১০ তরুণ ও যুবককে হাতেনাতে আটক করা হয়।
গ্রেফতারকৃতরা হলেন—মো. ওমর ফারুক (২৪), আশিক দাশ অভি (২৩), মো. জাহিদুল ইসলাম (২২), শাকিবুল হাসান (২০), মো. নয়ন (২০), মো. রবিউল ইসলাম (২৩), মো. এমরান হোসেন নাজিম (২৫), মো. মান্নান হোসেন (৩৬), মো. রবিউল আলম (২০) এবং মাজহারুল ইসলাম শিমুল (২১)।
অভিযানকালে ধৃত ব্যক্তিদের হেফাজত থেকে ৩১ পিস নিষিদ্ধ ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট, ১০০ গ্রাম গাঁজা এবং মাদক বিক্রির নগদ ২৭ হাজার ২৭৫ টাকা উদ্ধার করা হয়। এ ছাড়া মাদক সেবনের কাজে ব্যবহৃত ১০টি গ্যাস লাইটার, টাকা মুড়িয়ে তৈরি ৬টি পাইপ, ৮টি ব্যবহৃত বোতলের কর্ক এবং ১০ টুকরা বিশেষ ফয়েল পেপার জব্দ করে পুলিশ। জব্দকৃত সব আলামতের তালিকা তৈরি করে থানা হেফাজতে রাখা হয়েছে।
চাটখিল থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. আব্দুল মোন্নাফ ঘটনার সত্যতা নিশ্চিত করে জানান, এসআই মুহাম্মদ মুসলিম, এসআই টুটন মজুমদার, এসআই মামুনুর রশিদ এবং এএসআই শাহ আলম গাজী, এএসআই মো. জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেন, এএসআই মো. আলী হোসেন ও এএসআই মো. হাছানসহ পুলিশের সমন্বিত দল এ অভিযান পরিচালনা করে।

Three people, including two women, were arrested and three others assaulted on Dhanmondi Road 32 yesterday as they went there to pay tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 51st death anniversary.
The incidents took place in front of Mujib’s house, which was demolished in February last year.
Arnab Das, 32, was detained by police after he went to the site to place flowers around 10:15am.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Imdadul Islam told reporters that Arnab was from Tangail and police had initially learnt that he was a member of the Awami League-affiliated Jubo League, whose activities are now banned.
Contacted by The Daily Star, Dhanmondi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Jalaluddin said Arnab was later sent to jail by a court after being shown arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Meanwhile, two women were arrested at night after going to the site to place flowers.
A video circulated on social media showed a group of people surrounding the women, who were dressed in black, and repeatedly asking why they were there. The women replied that they wanted to place flowers.
OC Imdadul told The Daily Star last night that the women were arrested for making “anti-state and anti-government speeches” and speaking on behalf of a banned organisation. He did not disclose their identities and what they they actually said.
However, he said he was “unaware of the incident in which the women were surrounded by a group of people”.
Earlier in the day, three others were assaulted for filming the area on a phone, chanting “Joy Bangla” and distributing snacks.
According to witnesses, a rickshaw-puller was filming the area on his mobile phone around 11:45am when ANM Ayas, who identified himself as member secretary of the Rashtra Sanglap Forum, approached him and checked his phone.
Ayas accused him of sending the video to a member of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League or Jubo League. Several people accompanying Ayas then assaulted the rickshaw-puller in front of police at the scene.
The rickshaw-puller, whose name The Daily Star could not obtain, was later taken to Dhanmondi Police Station and detained, but released after questioning.
Another man at the scene reportedly chanted “Joy Bangla” and was beaten by the group, but managed to flee.
Around noon, another man was assaulted after being accused of distributing snacks to mark Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s death anniversary. He was seen carrying a bag of shingaras (a traditional local snack) before the assault.
Ayas and his associates described themselves as “July fighters”.
Speaking to reporters, Ayas said they had stationed themselves in the area to prevent Awami League and Jubo League leaders and activists from carrying out any “subversive activities”.
Asked whether they had the right to beat people as a mob, he insisted they had not formed one and left the area amid questions from journalists.
A video of the incident that went viral on social media showed police standing by as the assaults took place.
Asked about the assaults and police’s role, Inspector Jalaluddin told The Daily Star, “They were arguing and fighting among themselves. We later went there and resolved the matter. They were all from the same group.”
Police barricades were placed on both sides of the road in front of the demolished house at Dhanmondi 32 early in the morning. Vehicular movement was suspended, while pedestrians were also barred from passing through the area.
A large number of law enforcers were deployed at the scene, with an armoured police vehicle on standby. Journalists from different media outlets and curious onlookers also gathered there from the morning.

The death reference (trial court records sent to the High Court for confirmation of the death sentence) and appeals in the widely discussed Ramisa Akter rape and murder case have been placed before the High Court for priority hearing and disposal.
Deputy Attorney General Mohammad Imam Hossain Tareq told The Daily Star that the bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja will begin hearing the case after disposing of the 21 cases listed before it.
He said the bench is currently hearing the death references and appeals in the widely discussed cases over the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi and the rape and murder of eight-year-old Asiya in Magura.
The DAG could not say when the bench would start hearing the Ramisa case.
Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury formed the bench on June 10 to hear death sentences and appeals in cases involving crimes against women and children, including Ramisa’s case.
Ramisa, a class two student at Popular Model High School in Dhaka’s Pallabi, was found dead at her neighbour Sohel Rana’s house on May 19.
Her father filed a case with Pallabi Police Station the next day, accusing Sohel, his wife Swapna Khatun and an unidentified person.
On June 7, the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Dhaka sentenced Sohel to death for raping and murdering Ramisa. The tribunal also sentenced Swapna to death for helping him.
Both convicts later filed separate appeals through the jail authorities, seeking to be acquitted.

Police say the suspect is linked to Neo JMB and that his arrest led to the recovery of explosives and bomb-making materials
A Dhaka court today placed Mohammad Arif alias Imran, 26, an alleged member of Neo JMB, on a six-day remand. He was arrested in Savar on August 11, with a pipe bomb in his possession.
Abu Bakar Siddique, an assistant sub-inspector with the Savar GR section of the court police, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Tajul Islam Sohag of the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court passed the order.
Earlier in the afternoon, Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, told The Daily Star that a case had been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act against six Neo JMB members and six to seven unidentified people over the recovery of a large quantity of explosives and materials used to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Shyampur, Savar.
Arif has been shown arrested in the case and was produced before the court seeking a 10-day remand for further interrogation, the OC said.
The case was filed yesterday by SI Md Alomgir Hossain of the Counter Terrorism Investigation Division with Savar Model Police Station.
The accused named in the case are Arif, son of Md Hanif of Fekamara in Kishoreganj’s Katiadi; Md Nazmul Hasan Mamun, 32, son of late Ismail of Shyampur in Savar; Md Akkas Ali, 30, son of Md Amin Uddin Khan of Durgapur in Pabna’s Sujanagar; Kamal Hossain, 45, of Diyakhali in Ashulia; Rakhi, 30; and Rakib, 30.
According to the case statement, the Neo JMB members held a secret meeting near the embankment beside the western wall of the Savar Tannery Estate on the evening of August 11, allegedly with the intention of carrying out sabotage.
A team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit later conducted a raid there and arrested Arif with a pipe bomb. The others reportedly fled.
Acting on information provided by Arif, law enforcement agencies later raided a rented house in Shyampur, Savar.
They seized nearly two dozen items, including 98 percent concentrated sulphuric acid, nitric acid, potassium nitrate powder, detonators and other materials used to make IEDs, remote controllers, a voltmeter and bearing balls, according to the case statement.
The bomb disposal unit also destroyed a pipe bomb or IED recovered from the house at the scene in the interest of public safety.

পরবর্তীতে রাত্রিকালীন ডিউটিতে যোগদানের জন্য নিরাপত্তা প্রহরী তোয়াবুর রহমান ঘটনাস্থলে এসে বাইরের গেট তালাবদ্ধ অবস্থায় দেখতে পান। একই সময়ে নিহতের ছেলেও তার বাবার খোঁজ নিতে সেখানে উপস্থিত হন। বিষয়টি নিয়ে উভয়ই আলোচনা করে তোয়াবুর রহমান দেয়াল টপকে বাউন্ডারির ভিতরে প্রবেশ করে আব্দুর রহমানকে মৃত অবস্থায় দেখতে পান। পরবর্তীতে পুলিশকে সংবাদ দেওয়া হলে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে উপস্থিত হয়ে মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে।
পরে গোপনীয় তথ্য সংগ্রহ ও তথ্যপ্রযুক্তির সহায়তায় হত্যাকান্ডের সঙ্গে জড়িত সন্দেহে একই প্রতিষ্ঠানের সাবেক নিরাপত্তা প্রহরী জুয়েলকে শনাক্ত করে। হত্যার সাথে জড়িত থাকার বেশকিছু সত্যতা পাওয়া গেলে তাকে আটক করে। এ ঘটনায় বুধবার জুয়েলের নাম উল্লেখ করে অজ্ঞাত আরো কয়েকজনকে আসামী করে সদর থানায় একটি হত্যা মামলা দায়ের করে নিহতের ছেলে আশরাফুল ইসলাম।

জেলা গোয়েন্দা শাখার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. হুমায়ুন কবির বলেন, মাদকের বিরুদ্ধে ‘জিরো টলারেন্স’ নীতির অংশ হিসেবে এ অভিযান পরিচালনা করা হয়েছে। মাদক নির্মূল ও অপরাধ দমনে এ ধরনের অভিযান ভবিষ্যতেও আরও জোরদার করা হবে।
2026.8.10 জামালপুরে গৃহবধূর ছবি বিকৃত করে ব্ল্যাকমেইল, ধর্ষণ মামলায় দুজনের মৃত্যুদণ্ড
জামালপুরের দেওয়ানগঞ্জে এক গৃহবধূর ছবি বিকৃত করে সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার হুমকি এবং একাধিকবার ধর্ষণের ঘটনায় দায়ের করা মামলায় দুই আসামিকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দিয়েছেন আদালত। একই সঙ্গে তাদের প্রত্যেককে এক লাখ টাকা করে অর্থদণ্ড দেওয়া হয়েছে।
সোমবার (১০ আগস্ট) দুপুরে জামালপুর নারী ও শিশু নির্যাতন দমন ট্রাইব্যুনাল-১-এর বিচারক আব্দুর রহিম আসামিদের উপস্থিতিতে এ রায় ঘোষণা করেন।
মৃত্যুদণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত আসামিরা হলেন—দেওয়ানগঞ্জ উপজেলার নিমাইমারী গ্রামের আশকর আলী (৪০) ও জাহিদুল ইসলাম (৩৫)।
মামলা ও আদালত সূত্রে জানা যায়, ভুক্তভোগী গৃহবধূ এবং দণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত আসামিরা একই গ্রামের বাসিন্দা। দীর্ঘদিন ধরে আসামিরা ওই গৃহবধূকে বিভিন্নভাবে কুপ্রস্তাব দিয়ে আসছিলেন। এতে তিনি রাজি না হওয়ায় আসামিরা তার ছবি বিকৃত করে আপত্তিকর ছবি তৈরি করেন। পরে এসব ছবি সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার ভয় দেখিয়ে তাকে ব্ল্যাকমেইল করা হয়।
অভিযোগে আরও জানা যায়, গৃহবধূকে ভয়ভীতি দেখানোর পাশাপাশি তার স্বামী ও সন্তানকে হত্যার হুমকি দেওয়া হয়। এসব হুমকির মাধ্যমে আশকর আলী বিভিন্ন সময়ে ওই গৃহবধূকে একাধিকবার ধর্ষণ করেন বলে মামলায় অভিযোগ করা হয়।
এ ঘটনায় ভুক্তভোগীর অভিযোগের পর মামলা দায়ের করা হয়। মামলার দীর্ঘ বিচারিক প্রক্রিয়া শেষে সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণ পর্যালোচনা করে আদালত দুই আসামিকে মৃত্যুদণ্ডের পাশাপাশি প্রত্যেককে এক লাখ টাকা করে অর্থদণ্ড দেন।
রায় ঘোষণার সময় আসামিরা আদালতে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

সিআইডি পুলিশের জ্যাকেটের আদলে তৈরি জ্যাকেট পরিধান ও হাতে ওয়াকিটকি নিয়ে নিজেদের সিআইডি কর্মকর্তা পরিচয়ে এক নারীকে জোরপূর্বক তুলে নেওয়ার চেষ্টার অভিযোগে নোয়াখালীতে সাতজনকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ। এ সময় তাদের কাছ থেকে সিআইডি বাংলাদেশ পুলিশের জ্যাকেটের আদলে তৈরি চারটি জ্যাকেট, তিনটি ওয়াকিটকি ও একটি এক্স-নোহা গাড়ি উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে।

পুলিশ জানায়, জাতীয় জরুরি সেবা ৯৯৯-এ ফোন করে ওই বাসার বাসিন্দা মো. আতাউর রহমান (৬২) অভিযোগ করেন, কয়েকজন ব্যক্তি সিআইডি পুলিশ পরিচয়ে তার বাসায় ঢুকে মেয়েকে জোরপূর্বক তুলে নেওয়ার চেষ্টা করছেন। খবর পেয়ে সুধারাম থানা পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে গিয়ে অভিযান চালায়।
এ সময় জাহাঙ্গীর আলম, আবুল কাশেম সোহেল ও শাহাদাত হক খান চৌধুরীকে সিআইডি পুলিশের জ্যাকেটের আদলে তৈরি জ্যাকেট পরা এবং হাতে ওয়াকিটকি থাকা অবস্থায় দেখতে পায় পুলিশ। পরে শুভ চৌধুরী ওরফে শহিদুল ইসলাম, রুবেল হোসেন ও মো. নাদিরকেও ঘটনাস্থল থেকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
পুলিশের দাবি, গ্রেপ্তারদের হেফাজত থেকে তিনটি জ্যাকেট ও তিনটি ওয়াকিটকি উদ্ধার করা হয়। পরে বাসার সামনে থাকা ঢাকা মেট্রো-চ-১৪-৮২৪৫ নম্বরের একটি এক্স-নোহা গাড়ি থেকে মো. শরীফ মিয়াকে আটক করা হয়। ওই গাড়ি থেকেও পুলিশের ব্যবহৃত জ্যাকেটের আদলে তৈরি আরও একটি গাঢ় খাকি রঙের জ্যাকেট উদ্ধার করা হয়।
পুলিশের প্রাথমিক তদন্তে জানা গেছে, আতাউর রহমানের মেয়ে তাসনীমুল জান্নাত ওরফে মালিহার সঙ্গে গ্রেপ্তার শুভ চৌধুরী ওরফে শহিদুল ইসলামের শরিয়াহ মোতাবেক বিয়ে হয়েছিল। পরবর্তীতে তাদের মধ্যে পারিবারিক বিরোধ সৃষ্টি হলে গত ২১ জানুয়ারি ২০২৬ তাদের বিবাহবিচ্ছেদ হয়।
পুলিশ জানায়, গত ১২ আগস্ট জাহাঙ্গীর আলম, আবুল কাশেম সোহেল ও শাহাদাত হক খান চৌধুরী সিআইডি পুলিশের জ্যাকেটের আদলে তৈরি পোশাক পরে ও ওয়াকিটকি হাতে নিজেদের সিআইডি কর্মকর্তা পরিচয়ে আতাউর রহমানের বাসায় প্রবেশ করেন। পরে শুভ চৌধুরী, রুবেল হোসেন ও নাদিরও সেখানে প্রবেশ করেন। একপর্যায়ে তারা তাসনীমুল জান্নাত ওরফে মালিহাকে জোরপূর্বক টানাহেঁচড়া করে নিয়ে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করেন বলে অভিযোগ করা হয়েছে। চিৎকার শুনে আশপাশের লোকজন এগিয়ে এসে তাদের আটক করেন।
ওসি মো.নজরুল ইসলাম আরও বলেন, ৯৯৯-এ খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে গিয়ে সাতজনকে গ্রেপ্তার করে। তাদের গ্রেপ্তার দেখিয়ে নোয়াখালী চীফ জুডিশিয়াল ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়েছে।

A three-month pregnant woman died after allegedly being beaten by her husband in Dhamrai, Dhaka. Police have arrested the accused, Liton Sarkar.
The incident occurred in the Gomgram area of Jadabpur Union on Sunday.
Police recovered the body at night and sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for an autopsy.
According to police and local sources, Liton Sarkar works as a CNG auto-rickshaw driver.
Family members alleged that he had long been addicted to drugs and regularly subjected his wife, Popi Rani Sarkar, 27, to physical and mental abuse.
They alleged that Liton beat Popi with a stick during a family dispute on Sunday afternoon in front of their seven-year-old child, leaving her critically injured and unconscious.
Later in the evening, he, with the help of locals, took her to Kalampur Holy General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
After learning of her death, locals detained Liton and handed him over to police.
The victim’s father, Parimal Sarkar, alleged that his daughter had been repeatedly assaulted since her marriage.
He said she had taken shelter at her parental home several times following abuse, but returned to her husband’s house after he apologised. He alleged that the latest assault led to her death.
Dhamrai Police Inspector (Investigation) Shahidul Islam said police recovered the body after being informed of the incident.
“Preliminary examination found multiple injury marks on the body. The accused husband has been arrested. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is received,” he said.
He added that police are in the process of recording a complaint from the victim’s family and taking legal action.

Police have submitted a 47-page charge sheet in the case filed over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in Pallabi, capital.
Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka on Sunday, May 24. Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin took cognisance of the charge sheet and set June 1 for the hearing on framing charges.
The charge sheet states that the main accused, Sohail Rana, is an auto-rickshaw mechanic by profession. He gave a confessional statement before a metropolitan magistrate on May 20. In his confession, Sohail said that after taking drugs regularly, he called child Ramisa from the neighbouring house into his room around 9:30 am on May 19. When the child screamed during the rape, he covered her mouth and stuffed cloth into it. Believing her to be dead after she lost consciousness, he attempted to mutilate the body with a sharp weapon to destroy evidence.
The autopsy report stated that the child died from excessive bleeding and shock due to the severing of her head. All wounds on her body were inflicted while she was alive.
The report also reveals that Sohail’s wife, Swapna Khatun, helped him escape. While the child’s family was searching for Ramisa, Swapna held the door shut, buying time for Sohail. He then broke the window grill and fled. Swapna opened the door only after Sohail had escaped. Swapna Khatun has also been made an accused in the case for aiding in destroying evidence and helping the accused flee.
The child’s body was recovered from a flat in B-block, Sector 11, Pallabi, on Tuesday, May 19. Police detained Swapna from the flat immediately after the incident. Sohail was arrested from Fatullah in Narayanganj with the help of information technology on the same evening.
The victim’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed the case at Pallabi Police Station naming both as accused. Police submitted the charge sheet in the sensitive case just five days after the case was filed.

দুপুরে ঢাকার চিফ মেট্রোপলিটন ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট (সিএমএম) আদালতে মামলার তদন্ত কর্মকর্তা পল্লবী থানার উপ-পরিদর্শক (এসআই) মো. ওহিদুজ্জামান ভূঁইয়া নিপুণ ৪৭ পৃষ্ঠার এই বিস্তৃত চার্জশিটটি দাখিল করেন। ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) প্রসিকিউশন বিভাগের উপকমিশনার (ডিসি) মিয়া মোহাম্মদ আশিস বিন হাছাস গণমাধ্যমকে বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন।
তদন্ত সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্র জানায়, মামলার তদন্তকে নিশ্ছিদ্র করতে বৈজ্ঞানিক প্রমাণকে সবচেয়ে বেশি গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে। গতকাল শনিবার (২৩ মে) সিআইডির ল্যাব থেকে রামিসার ডিএনএ প্রোফাইলিং, ময়নাতদন্ত এবং ভিসেরা রিপোর্ট তদন্তকারী কর্মকর্তার হাতে পৌঁছায়।
সিআইডির বিশেষ পুলিশ সুপার (মিডিয়া) জসীম উদ্দিন খান জানান, ল্যাবে সর্বোচ্চ অগ্রাধিকার দিয়ে সব ধরণের ফরেনসিক ও ডিএনএ পরীক্ষার প্রক্রিয়া শেষ করে দ্রুততম সময়ে তদন্ত কর্মকর্তার কাছে তা হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছিল, যা চার্জশিটে অকাট্য প্রমাণ হিসেবে যুক্ত করা হয়েছে।
মামলার বিবরণী থেকে জানা যায়, গত মঙ্গলবার (১৯ মে) সকালে পল্লবীর ১১ নম্বর সেকশনের বি-ব্লকের একটি ফ্ল্যাটে কৌশলে শিশু রামিসাকে ডেকে নিয়ে যায় পাশের ফ্ল্যাটের বাসিন্দা সোহেল রানা। সেখানে শিশুটির ওপর পাশবিক নির্যাতন চালানোর পর প্রমাণ লোপাটের জন্য তাকে অত্যন্ত নির্মমভাবে গলা কেটে হত্যা করা হয়। নৃশংসতার চরম পর্যায়ে রামিসার মাথা শরীর থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন করে ফেলা হয়েছিল।
হত্যাকাণ্ড শেষে ফ্ল্যাটের জানালার গ্রিল কেটে ঘাতক সোহেল রানা পালিয়ে গেলেও তার স্ত্রী স্বপ্না আক্তার ঘরেই অবস্থান করছিল। ঘটনার পর পুলিশ দ্রুত ওই ফ্ল্যাট থেকে মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে এবং স্বপ্নাকে আলামত গোপনের সহযোগিতার অভিযোগে আটক করে। পরবর্তীতে তথ্যপ্রযুক্তির সহায়তায় মাত্র ৭ ঘণ্টার ব্যবধানে ২০ মে রাতে নারায়ণগঞ্জের ফতুল্লা থেকে মূল ঘাতক সোহেল রানাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
গ্রেপ্তারের পর মেট্রোপলিটন ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট আমিনুল ইসলাম জুনায়েদের আদালতে হাজির করা হলে সোহেল রানা ফৌজদারি কার্যবিধির ১৬৪ ধারায় নিজের অপরাধ স্বীকার করে রোমহর্ষক ও জবানবন্দি দেন। এরপর আদালত তাকে কারাগারে পাঠানোর নির্দেশ দেন। এ ঘটনায় রামিসার বাবা আব্দুল জানান মোল্লা বাদী হয়ে পল্লবী থানায় মামলা দায়ের করেছিলেন।
রামিসার নির্মম হত্যাকাণ্ডের পর দেশজুড়ে তীব্র ক্ষোভ ও নিন্দার ঝড় উঠলে খোদ প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান গত ২১ মে রাতে রামিসার পল্লবীর বাসভবনে গিয়ে শোকসন্তপ্ত পরিবারকে সান্ত্বনা দেন। সে সময়ই স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী সালাহউদ্দিন আহমদ সাংবাদিকদের জানিয়েছিলেন যে রোববারের মধ্যে চার্জশিট দেওয়া হবে।
আইন, বিচার ও সংসদ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী মো. আসাদুজ্জামান জানিয়েছেন, “ঈদের আগেই চার্জশিট দাখিলের যে প্রতিশ্রুতি সরকার দিয়েছিল, তা সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। এর ফলে ঈদের ছুটির পরপরই এই মামলার বিচারিক কার্যক্রম (ট্রায়াল) বিশেষ ট্রাইব্যুনালে শুরু করা যাবে।” একই সঙ্গে রামিসা হত্যা মামলার পাশাপাশি দেশের অন্যান্য সমসাময়িক ধর্ষণ মামলাগুলোও সরকার অত্যন্ত নিবিড়ভাবে পর্যবেক্ষণ করছে বলে জানান আইনমন্ত্রী।

Currently, the familiar classroom of the second grade at the Popular Model School in Mirpur is enveloped in silence. Outside, the sun blazes, yet the interior of the room is shrouded in a dull, icy gloom. The bench where Ramisa, the class’s top student, would sit daily to organize her books with remarkable skill, feels even more desolate and quiet today. The charming girl, who excelled in first grade after securing second place in play and kindergarten, is now adorned with trophies from the school that celebrate her abilities. Although the trophies remain, Ramisa, whose radiant smile once brightened the entire room, is absent today.
The father, who just the day before yesterday wore his tattered three-year-old sandals and believed that no matter what befell him, his children must not endure hardship, is now weeping as he embraces his daughter’s unaware classmates. This unfortunate father possesses countless images of his daughter on his mobile device, yet he lacks the strength to view even a single photograph of Ramisa.
This is because his seven-year-old child has tragically become a lifeless body, a casualty of a monster’s depravity. We avert our gaze even when we hear cries; this is a significant issue.
In the wake of that horrific moment, Ramisa’s mother mournfully recalled, “I heard a scream, but I did not realize it was my daughter’s.” The girl stood in the doorway with only one shoe on; the assailant did not grant her the opportunity to put on the other shoe, or perhaps one was lost in the struggle. Before the innocent child could comprehend the situation, the lurking darkness seized her and pulled her into the abyss. When she heard her daughter’s screams, the mother assumed it was merely another child’s typical wailing, possibly from a neighboring apartment.
Isn’t our society today also trapped in a dreadful stupor, much like this mother? Daily, we witness numerous signs of injustice in the streets and alleys surrounding us, observe the walls of the buildings, and hear the cries of countless children perishing in the streets. But we think, wrapped in a strange self-centeredness—’That’s the crying of someone else’s house, my own child is safe!’ Doesn’t this so-called ‘gentleman’ culture, which disregards the happenings in the neighboring flat and the plight of those whose homes are engulfed in darkness, embolden murderers to act with impunity?
Has our state and society truly become entirely blind and deaf? Behind the closed doors of this oblivious society, how many more thousands of Ramisas will be forced to the sacrificial altar in this manner? How much more blood will be required to reinforce these mathematical calculations? This pressing question must be directed towards the stagnant laws of our country, the inert courts, and the slumbering consciences of each one of us.
Some uninformed individuals often claim that the attire of girls is responsible for teasing and rape. When countless flowers like Ramisa are subjected to vile desires while still in their buds, how can clothing be blamed for such atrocities? Just as Nanda Ghosh’s vile music must be halted, so too must he be stopped.
Social failure or the illusion of citizenship. The headless corpse of a seven-year-old innocent child, along with the severed head found on the bathroom floor—this is not merely the horror of the child murderer; it serves as a damning testament to our collective social decay. Today, we are preoccupied with trivial disputes over petty power politics, factionalism, and personal agendas, while neglecting our own responsibilities as citizens. What is there to take pride in regarding a citizenship that fails to ensure the safety of a small child?
What is the worth of this rod cement wall that enables the murderer to carry out crimes without any hesitation? We perceive glitter and clothing as symbols of nobility, but ultimately, is this unprotected society the outcome we desire? Our interactions with our neighbors and the security system of our neighborhood have entirely deteriorated. We invest in costly CCTV cameras at our entrances, yet we ignore the threats posed by those in the adjacent room. When an individual can perpetrate such a heinous act by securing the door of an apartment in broad daylight, and those around him remain oblivious for an extended period, it becomes evident that our social connections have crumbled like a house of cards. The inhuman individual who did not hesitate for a moment to take the life of a child deserves neither sympathy nor leniency in the eyes of the law.
We may spend years debating trivial issues, but after the life of an innocent child has been taken, we cannot afford to waste time. If we do not exemplify strict justice, Ramisa will continue to suffer, and our lamentations will only grow. Why should the judiciary be enveloped in bureaucratic intricacies in matters of such public significance? How many dreams will be shattered? When we observe the statistics of violence against women and children on television or in newspapers, they appear to us as mere lifeless mathematical figures. However, we must remember that behind each statistic lies a living individual, an unfulfilled aspiration, and the primary motivation for a family’s survival. When the little girl in our home departs with a schoolbag slung over her shoulder and a smile gracing her face, can we honestly place our hands on our hearts and assure ourselves that she will return home with that same smile? This perpetual fear should not exist in the minds of any parent; it is unacceptable.
This is my suffering, your suffering, everyone’s suffering; it reflects the failure of the judiciary and the limitations of the state.
Ultimately, Ramisa will never return to her mother’s embrace, nor will she respond to her teacher’s call upon hearing roll number ‘one’. However, if the blood stain she left behind fails to stir our dormant society and awaken it today, then we too are complicit in the crimes committed.
Today, those of you reading this article from the comfort of your secure homes should take a moment to observe the faces of your children playing in the corners of your houses. If we cannot take to the streets today to protest against the cruelty inflicted upon Pallavi, irrespective of our political affiliations or opinions, then tomorrow, behind the closed doors of this indifferent society, another pair of Ramisa’s slippers may be found abandoned in solitude.
We desire for every girl child, every young girl in this nation, to live in safety and with dignity. Furthermore, we demand that every rapist and murderer be eradicated from society—swiftly, decisively, and without hesitation.

A court in Meherpur today sentenced a man to death over raping an 11-year-old girl last year.
The convict is Shakil Hossain, 25, of Chandpur Dakshinpara village under Gangni upazila.
The court also fined him Tk 3 lakh, in default of which he will have to serve another year in prison.
District and Sessions Judge Md Tajul Islam of Meherpur Prevention of Children Repression Tribunal delivered the verdict at noon.
Advocate Mostafizur Rahman Tuhin stood for the state, while Advocate Maruf Ahmed Bijon defended the accused.
The case was settled in just 29 working days. To ensure a speedy trial, testimonies from distant witnesses were taken virtually. A total of 12 witnesses testified in the case.
According to the prosecution, on June 16, 2025, the child was carrying food to her father, who was working in a field, when Shakil took her to a nearby jute field and raped her.
Hearing the child’s cries, farmers working in nearby fields rushed to the scene, but Shakil managed to flee. Later that afternoon, locals caught Shakil, beat him up, and handed him over to the police. x1200
BGB says the group planned to circulate counterfeit notes in cattle markets and shopping centres ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two members of an alleged counterfeit currency racket, including a Rohingya man, and seized fake notes worth nearly Tk1 crore along with equipment used to produce the currency in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf upazila.
The arrests were made during a raid at around 4:30pm today (25 May) at a rented house adjacent to the Jadimura Rohingya camp in Hnila union of Teknaf, said Major Mubasshir Nakib Tarfdar, deputy commander of BGB Battalion-2.
The detainees are Azizur Rahman, a Rohingya resident of the Shalbon camp in Teknaf who works as a tomtom driver, and Md Nazmul, a resident of Brahmanbaria district.
During the raid, BGB members recovered counterfeit Tk200, Tk500 and Tk1,000 notes worth nearly Tk1 crore.
They also seized a laptop, colour printer, golden foil paper, security tags, watermarked paper, partially printed notes, glue, cutters and watermark-making dies used in producing fake currency.
Major Mubasshir Nakib Tarfdar said BGB carried out the operation based on intelligence reports that a racket was planning to circulate a large volume of counterfeit notes in Rohingya camps, cattle markets and shopping centres ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
He added that the group had been supplying counterfeit notes to different areas, particularly targeting cattle markets and commercial centres ahead of Eid.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are underway, he added.

রোববার (২৪ মে) দুপুর আড়াইটার দিকে উপজেলার কুড়ালিয়া গ্রামের কৃষ্ণকান্ত রায়ের বাড়ির পুকুর থেকে পুলিশ তার মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে।

নলছিটি থানার ওসি মো. আরিফুল আলম জানান, উদ্ধার হওয়া মরদেহের শরীরের বিভিন্ন স্থানে ধারালো অস্ত্রের আঘাতের চিহ্ন পাওয়া গেছে। প্রাথমিকভাবে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, দুর্বৃত্তরা তাকে কুপিয়ে হত্যার পর মরদেহ পুকুরে ফেলে রেখে যায়।
তিনি আরও জানান, হত্যাকাণ্ডের সঙ্গে জড়িতদের শনাক্ত ও গ্রেপ্তারে পুলিশ কাজ শুরু করেছে। এ ঘটনায় আইনগত প্রক্রিয়া চলমান রয়েছে।

According to police, the victim’s family and Anwar live in adjacent rented rooms in the same house. Both parents of the child are working professionals.
Yesterday morning, they left for their workplaces. Around 11am, the accused, Anwar entered the child’s room under the pretext of charging a mobile phone and allegedly raped her.
When the parents returned home at night, the child informed them of the matter.
Following a verbal complaint at the police station this morning, police detained Anwar.

Police say the child was rescued and sent to hospital for medical examination and treatment
Police have arrested a man on charge of raping a seven-year-old girl in Kuliarchar upazila of Kishoreganj.
The arrestee was identified as Mahbubullah, 23, of Khalishapur village in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona. Mahbubullah is the imam of Paschim Tarakandi Jame Mosque in Ramdi union of Kuliarchar, said Kuliarchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Arif.
According to police and local sources, Mahbubullah raped the girl this afternoon when she went to deliver food to him.
As the news spread, locals locked Mahbubullah in the mosque and informed the police. Upon receiving the information, a team from Kuliarchar Police Station went to the spot and arrested him.
Police said the victim has been rescued and sent to the hospital for physical examination and treatment.
The OC said they are investigating the incident.
“There will be no compromise under any kind of influence or pressure. Strict action will be taken according to the law through an impartial investigation,” he said.

নড়াইলের লোহাগড়া উপজেলায় এক এসএসসি পরীক্ষার্থীকে তুলে নিয়ে বিবস্ত্র করে ভিডিও ধারণ ও মোটা অঙ্কের টাকা দাবির অভিযোগ উঠেছে তিন বখাটের বিরুদ্ধে। এ ঘটনায় মানসিকভাবে ভেঙে পড়ে ওই ছাত্রী আত্মহত্যার চেষ্টা করলে বর্তমানে তিনি খুলনা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে আশঙ্কাজনক অবস্থায় চিকিৎসাধীন রয়েছেন।

অভিযোগ রয়েছে, তারা জোরপূর্বক ওই ছাত্রীকে তুলে নিয়ে গিয়ে বিবস্ত্র করে মোবাইল ফোনে ভিডিও ধারণ করে। পরে সেই ভিডিও সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার ভয় দেখিয়ে তার কাছে মোটা অঙ্কের টাকা দাবি করা হয়।
ঘটনার পর চরম মানসিক আঘাতে ভেঙে পড়ে ওই শিক্ষার্থী বাড়ি ফিরে হারপিক পান করে আত্মহত্যার চেষ্টা করেন। গুরুতর অসুস্থ অবস্থায় তাকে প্রথমে লোহাগড়া উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে নেওয়া হয়। পরে অবস্থার অবনতি হলে উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য খুলনা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়।
বর্তমানে তিনি সেখানে চিকিৎসাধীন রয়েছেন এবং তার অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক বলে জানা গেছে।
এ ঘটনায় এলাকায় তীব্র চাঞ্চল্যের সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। অভিযুক্ত তিনজন ঘটনার পর থেকেই পলাতক রয়েছে।

Dozens of people, including several police personnel and two journalists, were injured on Thursday (21 May) after violent clashes erupted between police and angry residents in Chattogram’s Bakalia area when a mob tried to snatch a suspect, accused of the attempted rape of a four-year-old child.
After seven hours of tension, the suspect has been taken into police custody.
Speaking to the media at around 1:30am, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Deputy Commissioner (South) Hossain Mohammad Kabir Bhuiyan said, “The situation is now fully under control. The accused person has been taken into police custody.”
He added, “Sound grenades and tear gas were used to disperse the agitated crowd.”
The incident began around 5pm at Abu Jafar Road in Chairmanghata under Ward 19 of Bakalia Police Station, when hundreds of residents gathered demanding that the suspect be handed over to them.
According to police and local sources, an employee of a local decoration shop had lured the child into the shop and attempted to assault her.
After news of the incident spread, outraged residents surrounded the building where the suspect was hiding. Bakalia police and senior officials of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) rushed to the scene, rescued the child, and detained the suspect.
However, when police tried to transport the accused, locals blocked the vehicle and demanded mob justice.
“We demand the rapist be hanged. We will not let police take him; he must be handed over to us,” a relative of the victim told The Business Standard.
As tensions escalated, police used tear gas shells, baton charges, and sound grenades to disperse the crowd after locals tried to snatch the accused from the police vehicle.
Around 1am, the unrest escalated significantly, spreading over a four-kilometer stretch from Bakalia to Chandgaon, reports our correspondent from the spot.
Angry protesters set fire to a police van and hurled brickbats at law enforcers, leaving the air thick with tear gas smoke and fires burning along the road. Vehicular movement on the Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram highway was suspended.
More than 1,000 police personnel, along with five platoons of RAB and APBN members, were deployed to restore order.
CMP DC Kabir Bhuiyan told TBS that law enforcement acted swiftly to protect the victim. “The child was rescued and sent to the One-Stop Crisis Centre [OCC] at CMCH,”
“Despite our assurances that the accused would face the severest legal punishment, the agitated crowd tried to take the law into their own hands and blocked our vehicle. Police had to take action to bring the situation under control,” he added.
CMP Assistant Commissioner (Media) Amirul Rashid also confirmed that several police personnel were injured during the clashes and noted that additional forces were being deployed.
During the live coverage of the clashes, sound grenades exploded near journalists.
Staff reporters Mamun Abdullah and Nobel Hasan, both representing the local daily Chattogram Pratidin, sustained injuries.
Chattogram Pratidin editor Hossein Toufiq Iftekhar told TBS, “They were injured after being hit by sound grenades during the clashes. Nobel Hasan’s condition is serious; he sustained injuries to his hand and leg, while Mamun Abdullah was injured in the waist and leg.”
Meanwhile, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain visited the child at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
He said, “The highest punishment for the rapist will be ensured. No leniency will be given.” x1200

গোপালগঞ্জে ১০ বছরের সশ্রম কারাদণ্ডপ্রাপ্ত পলাতক আসামি প্রিন্স মোল্লাকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে ইমিগ্রেশন পুলিশ। বিদেশে পালিয়ে যাওয়ার চেষ্টাকালে ঢাকার হযরত শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দর থেকে তাকে আটক করা হয়।
বুধবার গভীর রাতে বিমানবন্দরে ইমিগ্রেশন পুলিশের বিশেষ তৎপরতায় তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। পরে বৃহস্পতিবার দুপুরে গোপালগঞ্জ সদর থানা পুলিশ তাকে আদালতের মাধ্যমে কারাগারে পাঠায়।
পুলিশ ও আদালত সূত্রে জানা গেছে, গোপালগঞ্জ সদর উপজেলার নিজড়া গ্রামের এনামুল হকের ছেলে প্রিন্স মোল্লার বিরুদ্ধে মুসলিম পারিবারিক আইন অনুযায়ী মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছিল। মামলার দীর্ঘ শুনানি শেষে গত ১৩ এপ্রিল গোপালগঞ্জ সিনিয়র জুডিশিয়াল ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট আদালতের বিচারক মুহাম্মদ আলী তালহা তাকে ১০ বছরের সশ্রম কারাদণ্ড ও ১০ হাজার টাকা জরিমানার আদেশ দেন।

Police have arrested a 20-year-old madrasah student from Pabna last night (20 May) in connection with the rape and subsequent suicide of a 10-year-old boy inside a madrasah in the capital’s Banasree area.
The suspect, identified as Md Shihab Hossain, was apprehended during a raid conducted by a team from the Rampura Police Station at Khakchara village in the Bera upazila of Pabna district.
The arrest was officially confirmed today (21 May) by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Motijheel Zone Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Harun Or Rashid.
The suspect faces charges of rape and abetment of suicide following a formal case filed by the victim’s mother, Mst Tuku Ara Khatun, against Shihab and several unidentified individuals.
The deceased child was identified as Md Abdullah, a student at the Alokito Quran International Hifz Madrasah located in C-Block of Banasree, Rampura. Abdullah was the son of Abul Kalam Azad of Anupnagar village under the Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
According to police accounts, law enforcement officers recovered the hanging body of the victim from a washroom on the second floor of the madrasah building at around 10pm the day before yesterday (19 May), after being alerted by local residents.
The child had reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a towel wrapped around his neck.
During the preparation of the initial inquest report, forensic investigators discovered clear physical evidence of unnatural sexual assault and trauma on the victim’s body.
Rampura Police Station Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam initially noted that authorities strongly suspected sexual violation, adding that the precise medical cause of death would be conclusively established upon the arrival of the final autopsy report.
Subsequent police interrogations of the madrasah management revealed a pattern of predatory behaviour.
Madrasah authorities disclosed to investigators that the suspect, Shihab Hossain, had a history of engaging in sexual assault involving at least four other students at the madrasah.
Shihab had gone into hiding immediately after Abdullah’s body was recovered from the washroom, prompting the police to launch a cross-district tracking operation that eventually located him at his ancestral home in Pabna.

এই দীর্ঘমেয়াদি অবৈধ দখল উচ্ছেদ করতেই বুধবার সকাল ১০টার দিকে ঢাকা-১৬ আসনের সংসদ সদস্য (এমপি) আবদুল বাতেন, নির্বাহী ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট এবং বিপুল সংখ্যক পুলিশ সদস্যের উপস্থিতিতে এই অভিযান শুরু হয়।
অভিযান শুরুর পরপরই পরিস্থিতি আচমকা উত্তপ্ত হয়ে ওঠে। উচ্ছেদের প্রতিবাদে কয়েকশ স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা ও দখলদার একযোগে লাঠিসোঁটা নিয়ে অভিযানকারী দলটির ওপর চড়াও হয়।

এই প্রাথমিক সংঘর্ষে অন্তত সাতজন পুলিশ সদস্য এবং কয়েকজন সংবাদকর্মী গুরুতর আহত হন। আহত পুলিশ সদস্যদের চিকিৎসার জন্য দ্রুত রাজারবাগ পুলিশ হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
উচ্ছেদ অভিযানে হামলার এই খবর সরকারের উচ্চপর্যায়ে পৌঁছালে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে কঠোর ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার নির্দেশনা আসে। দুপুরে বিরতির পর মিরপুর বিভাগের উপ-পুলিশ কমিশনার মো. মোস্তাক সরকারের নেতৃত্বে কয়েকশ অতিরিক্ত দাঙ্গা পুলিশ নিয়ে দ্বিতীয় দফায় অ্যাকশনে নামে প্রশাসন।

উচ্ছেদ হওয়া স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা ও ক্ষুদ্র ব্যবসায়ীদের অভিযোগ, কোনো ধরনের পূর্ব ঘোষণা বা লিখিত নোটিশ ছাড়াই এই উচ্ছেদ চালানো হয়েছে। তামান্না জেনারেল স্টোরের স্বত্বাধিকারী সুমন ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করে বলেন, “আমাদের থাকার জায়গা নেই। মাথা গোঁজার ঠাঁই থাকলে তো এখানে থাকতাম না। এখন কই যামু, কী খামু?” স্থানীয়দের দাবি, এই এলাকায় প্রায় ১০ থেকে ১৫ হাজার মানুষ বসবাস করেন, যাদের পুনর্বাসন না করে এই উচ্ছেদ মানবিক বিপর্যয় ডেকে এনেছে।
অন্যদিকে, মিরপুর বিভাগের উপ-পুলিশ কমিশনার মো. মোস্তাক সরকার জানান, সরকারি সম্পত্তি উদ্ধার করতে গিয়ে পুলিশকে পরিকল্পিত হামলার মুখোমুখি হতে হয়েছে। সরকারি কাজে বাধা ও পুলিশের ওপর হামলার ঘটনায় আইনগত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হচ্ছে।

Investigators say the victim was drugged, killed and dismembered into eight pieces at a rented house in Dhaka’s Mugda area following a dispute involving money, blackmail allegations and an extramarital affair.
The friend of the alleged extramarital partner of murdered Saudi expatriate Mokarram has given a confessional statement before a Dhaka court over the gruesome killing in the capital’s Manda area.
The accused, Helena Begum, friend of Taslima Begum alias Hasna, confessed before the court today (19 May), while her teenage daughter Halima Akter was sent to a juvenile development centre in Gazipur’s Konabari.
Investigation officer and Mugda Police Station Sub-Inspector Enamul Haque Mithu produced the two before the court and sought to record Helena’s statement, saying she had agreed voluntarily to confess.
Following the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin recorded her statement and later sent her to jail.
Separately, Judge Md Moniruzzaman of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 ordered that Halima be sent to the juvenile development centre.
Sub-Inspector Marufuzzaman of the prosecution division confirmed the developments.
The victim, 38-year-old Mokarram Mia, hailed from Talshahar of Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria district. His identity was confirmed after police recovered dismembered body parts from Manda on 17 May.
At a press briefing held at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters on 18 May, the force revealed details of the murder.
According to RAB, Mokarram developed a relationship with Taslima, who was the wife of his acquaintance during his stay abroad. Over time, the relationship turned into an alleged affair, and he reportedly sent her more than Tk5 lakh while working in Saudi Arabia.
The incident took place after Mokarram returned to Bangladesh on 13 May without informing his family and visited Helena’s rented house in Mugda to meet Taslima.
RAB said tensions escalated that night over a proposed marriage, repayment of money, and threats involving private photos and videos.
Officials said the victim allegedly demanded repayment of the money he had sent and threatened to circulate compromising material on social media, further escalating the dispute.
RAB also alleged that Mokarram attempted inappropriate conduct involving Helena’s minor daughter during the night, which intensified the conflict among the accused.
On the following morning, the accused allegedly sedated him by mixing sleeping pills in his breakfast and later strangled him with a pillow. When he resisted, he was attacked with sharp weapons and a hammer, leading to his death.
RAB said the body was then dismembered into eight parts in a bathroom, with seven parts dumped in a plastic sack near the house and the head disposed of about one kilometre away. The head was later recovered based on information provided by the arrestees.
After the killing, the accused allegedly cleaned the scene, went out for food and shopping, and even hosted a small gathering at the house, RAB added.
They left the residence on 16 May, while foul smell from the discarded body parts later led locals to alert police. The body was recovered and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, where identity was confirmed through fingerprint analysis.
Police arrested Helena and her daughter on the night of 17 May and later recovered the victim’s head.
Following the incident, Mokarram’s uncle Rafiqul Islam filed a murder case with Mugda Police Station yesterday.

Police have recovered the beheaded and dismembered body of an unidentified person from the basement of a house in Mugda’s Manda area in Dhaka.
The body parts, cut into seven pieces and wrapped in polythene, were recovered around 2pm today (17 May) from underneath a basement in front of Shahnaz Villa on Abdul Gani Road in Manda area, confirmed Mugda Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Jalal Uddin.
He told The Business Standard that unidentified individuals had allegedly killed the victim, dismembered the body and abandoned it at the location.
He said the victim’s head could not be found. The recovered body parts included two hands and two legs.
Investigators suspect the victim was murdered six to seven days ago, as the body was found in a partially decomposed state, said the police official.
Jalal Uddin said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has collected samples in an attempt to identify the victim.
However, due to the advanced decomposition of the body, police have not yet been able to establish the identity of the deceased.
The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
An investigation is underway to uncover the mystery behind the killing, he added.

Police have arrested Professor Md Hasibur Rashid, former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), in connection with the murder of Abu Sayed during the 2024 July Uprising.

Confirming the matter, Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mezbah Uddin said local students and residents ldetained him before informing police.
“We brought him into custody around 8:30pm,” he said.
Police said the arrested former VC will be produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
Professor Hasibur Rashid previously served as a faculty member in the Management Information Systems (MIS) department at the University of Dhaka.
He was appointed vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University in June 2021.
He was named one of the key accused in the Abu Sayed murder case.
On 9 April this year, International Crimes Tribunal-2 delivered its verdict, sentencing 25 out of 30 accused individuals to various terms of imprisonment.
Rashid was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.
An arrest warrant was issued against him on 30 June last year.
Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, was killed in Rangpur in July 2024 amid nationwide unrest surrounding the quota reform movement.
He died after being shot by law enforcement personnel during protests, sparking widespread outrage across the country. The incident later became one of the defining moments of the July Uprising.
Following his death, a case was filed with the International Crimes Tribunal on charges of crimes against humanity.
After investigation, charges were brought against several university officials, political figures, and others involved.
নড়াইলের নড়াগাতী থানায় দায়ের হওয়া সরকারি সড়কের গাছ চুরির মামলার এজাহারভুক্ত আসামি মোঃ আতাউর কাজী (৩২)কে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ। শনিবার (১৬ মে) সন্ধ্যা ৭টার দিকে নড়াগাতী থানার বাগুডাঙ্গা এলাকায় নিজ বাড়ির সামনে থেকে তাকে আটক করা হয়। তিনি ওই গ্রামের লাবলু কাজীর ছেলে।
পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, সরকারি সড়কের গাছ কাটার ঘটনায় দায়ের করা মামলায় আতাউর কাজী এজাহারভুক্ত আসামি ছিলেন। গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে নড়াগাতী থানা পুলিশ অভিযান চালিয়ে তাকে গ্রেফতার করে।
পরে তাকে নড়াগাতী থানায় নিয়ে যাওয়া হয় এবং রোববার আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে পুলিশ।

নড়াইলের কালিয়া উপজেলায় অভিযান চালিয়ে ১৮০ পিস ইয়াবাসহ এক মাদক ব্যবসায়ীকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।
জানা গেছে, কালিয়া থানার পেড়লী পুলিশ ক্যাম্পের এসআই মোমরেজ আলী সঙ্গীয় ফোর্স নিয়ে সোমবার (১১ মে) দুপুরে উপজেলার শীতলাবাটি গ্রামে অভিযান পরিচালনা করেন। এসময় মরহুম মোহাম্মদ গাজীর ছেলে সাগর গাজীকে (৪০) তার নিজ বাড়ি থেকে ১৮০ পিস ইয়াবাসহ গ্রেফতার করা হয়।
পুলিশ ও স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, গ্রেফতারকৃত সাগর গাজী দীর্ঘদিন ধরে এলাকায় মাদক ব্যবসার সঙ্গে জড়িত ছিল। এছাড়াও প্রভাবশালী এক নেতার ছত্রছায়ায় সে এ ব্যবসা পরিচালনা করে আসছিল বলে এলাকাজুড়ে গুঞ্জন রয়েছে।
এ বিষয়ে কালিয়া থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ (ওসি) মোঃ ইদ্রিস আলী সাংবাদিকদের জানান, “ইয়াবাসহ সাগর গাজীকে গ্রেফতার করে থানাহাজতে রাখা হয়েছে। তার বিরুদ্ধে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে মামলা প্রক্রিয়াধীন রয়েছে। সকল আইনি প্রক্রিয়া শেষে তাকে নড়াইল জেলা আদালতে প্রেরণ করা হবে।”
তিনি আরও বলেন, “মাদক নিয়ন্ত্রণে কালিয়া থানা পুলিশ বদ্ধপরিকর। সমাজ ও যুবসমাজকে এই ভয়াবহ মাদকের ছোবল থেকে রক্ষা করতে সকল শ্রেণি-পেশার মানুষের সহযোগিতা প্রয়োজন।”

তবে কে বা কারা শিশুটিকে হত্যা করে রেখেছে কেউ বলতে পারছেন না। পুলিশ এসে শিশুটিকে উদ্ধার করে ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য পাঠিয়েছেন। এবং সন্দেহভাজন তিনজনকে আটক করেছেন। স্থানীয়রা উক্ত ঘটনার তদন্ত পূর্বক দৃষ্টান্তমূলক বিচার দাবি জানান।
নড়াইলের কালিয়া উপজেলায় জোরপূর্বক জমি দখল এবং প্রাণনাশের হুমকির অভিযোগ উঠেছে। এ ঘটনায় ভুক্তভোগী আমিরুল ইসলাম (৫৫) থানায় একটি সাধারণ ডায়েরি (জিডি) দায়ের করেছেন। জিডি নং ১০৮১।
লিখিত অভিযোগে আমিরুল ইসলাম উল্লেখ করেন, তার বসতবাড়ির পাশে ধানী ও বাস্তবাড়ি মিলিয়ে মোট ৬৩ শতক জমি রয়েছে, যার এসএ দাগ নং৪০৯৮,৮০৯৯ ও হাল দাগ নং ৬১১২,৬১১১ উল্লেখ আছে। এ জমির মধ্যে প্রায় ২০ শতক জমি দীর্ঘ চার বছর ধরে জোরপূর্বক দখল করে রেখেছে একই এলাকার আক্কাস মোল্যা (৬৫), মাফিজা বেগম (৫০), মো :মফিজুর মোল্যা (৩৫) ও সোহাগ মোল্যা (২১)।
এ বিষয়টি নিয়ে একাধিকবার এলাকার গণ্যমান্য ব্যক্তিদের উপস্থিতিতে শালিস বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয় এবং প্রতিবারই কাগজপত্র যাচাই করে তার পক্ষেই রায় দেওয়া হয়। তবে বিবাদীরা প্রথমে রায় মেনে নিলেও পরে তা অমান্য করে জমি ভোগদখলে বাধা দেয়।
অভিযোগে আরও বলা হয়, জমিতে যেতে চাইলে তাকে অকথ্য ভাষায় গালিগালাজ করা হয় এবং “পারলে জমি নিয়ে নাও” বলে হুমকি দেওয়া হয়। এমনকি তাকে হাত-পা ভেঙে ফেলা ও কুপিয়ে হত্যার হুমকিও দেওয়া হয়েছে বলে তিনি দাবি করেন।
এ ঘটনায় একাধিক স্থানীয় ব্যক্তি সাক্ষী রয়েছেন বলে অভিযোগে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।
২৮ এপ্রিল ( মঙ্গলবার) বিকালে সরজমিন গিয়ে দেখতে পাই, আমিরুল ইসলামের জমিতে
জোরপূর্বক দখল করে ঘর তুলে রেখেছে আক্কাস মোল্যারা। এ বিষয়ে তাদের বক্তব্য আনতে গিলে ২ সাংবাদিকের উপর হামলা করার চেষ্টা ও বিভিন্ন হুমকি প্রদান সহ অকথ্য ভাষায় গালাগালি করে বাড়ি থেকে বাহির করে দেয়।
এ বিষয়ে নড়াগাতী থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ (ওসি) মোঃ আব্দুল রহিম বলেন, ঘটনাটি নিয়ে পূর্বে একটি সাধারণ ডায়েরি (জিডি) করা হয়েছিল। পরবর্তীতে থানা পুলিশের হস্তক্ষেপে সংশ্লিষ্ট পক্ষগুলো গ্রাম্য শালিসের মাধ্যমে আপোষ-মীমাংসায় পৌঁছায়। সেই আপোষনামার একটি কপি থানায় জমা দেওয়ার পর আদালতে প্রেরণ করা হলে জিডিটি খারিজ করা হয়।
তিনি আরও বলেন, যদি পুনরায় জোরপূর্বক জমি দখল করে, তবে ভুক্তভোগী পক্ষে নতুন করে মামলা দায়ের করলে বিষয়টি তদন্ত সাপেক্ষে প্রয়োজনীয় আইনগত ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হবে।
বরিশালের মেহেন্দিগঞ্জ উপজেলার দড়িচর খাজুরিয়া ইউনিয়নে বাল্যবিবাহকে কেন্দ্র করে জামাতার বিরুদ্ধে শাশুড়ির দায়ের করা ধর্ষণ মামলা এলাকায় ব্যাপক চাঞ্চল্যের সৃষ্টি করেছে। উভয় পক্ষের মধ্যে উত্তেজনা বিরাজ করছে; স্থানীয়দের আশঙ্কা, যেকোনো সময় বিরোধ সংঘর্ষে রূপ নিতে পারে।
অভিযোগ সূত্রে জানা যায়, জন্মনিবন্ধন অনুযায়ী ষষ্ঠ শ্রেণির এক ছাত্রী (১২)-এর সঙ্গে ২০২৫ সালের ২ মার্চ একই এলাকার বারেক কাজীর ছেলে মাইদুল কাজীর বিয়ে হয়। বিয়েটি গায়েহলুদসহ জাঁকজমকপূর্ণভাবে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় বলে দাবি করা হয়েছে। বিয়েতে শতাধিক গ্রামবাসী, জনপ্রতিনিধি ও গণ্যমান্য ব্যক্তির উপস্থিতির কথাও বলা হয়।
বিয়ের পর দম্পতি প্রায় চার মাস ঢাকায় ভাড়া বাসায় একসঙ্গে বসবাস করেন। পরবর্তীতে পারিবারিক কলহের জেরে মেয়েটি বাবার বাড়িতে ফিরে যায়।
এরপর ৩১ আগস্ট ২০২৫ তারিখে মেয়ের মা সুমি বেগম বরিশাল আদালতে একটি মামলা দায়ের করেন। মামলায় জামাতা মাইদুল কাজী, তার বাবা বারেক কাজী এবং ননদ-জামাইকে আসামি করা হয়। অভিযোগে বলা হয়, বিয়ের বিষয়টি গোপন রেখে মেয়েকে ঢাকায় নিয়ে গিয়ে ধর্ষণ করা হয়েছে।
তবে অভিযুক্ত মাইদুল কাজী এই অভিযোগ অস্বীকার করে বলেন, শরিয়াহ মোতাবেক সামাজিকভাবে বিয়ে হয়েছে এবং এর ছবি ও ভিডিও প্রমাণ রয়েছে। তার দাবি, স্বামীর বিরুদ্ধে ধর্ষণের অভিযোগ ভিত্তিহীন।
এদিকে বরের বাবা বারেক কাজীও অভিযোগকে অস্বাভাবিক উল্লেখ করে বলেন, “বিয়ের পরও ধর্ষণ মামলা—এমন ঘটনা জীবনে শুনিনি।” তিনি আরও জানান, স্থানীয়ভাবে সালিশের মাধ্যমে বিচ্ছেদ ও মীমাংসার চেষ্টা হয়েছে এবং সে অনুযায়ী স্ট্যাম্পে স্বাক্ষরও করা হয়েছে।
ঘটক, ডেকোরেটর ও স্থানীয় ইউপি সদস্যসহ একাধিক ব্যক্তি বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানের উপস্থিতি নিশ্চিত করেছেন। তবে বিয়ের কাজী ভিন্ন বক্তব্য দিয়ে বলেন, কনের বয়স কম হওয়ায় তিনি বিয়ে সম্পন্ন না করেই ফিরে আসেন।
স্থানীয় অনেকেই মামলাটিকে মিথ্যা ও প্ররোচিত বলে মন্তব্য করলেও ভিকটিমের পরিবারের অভিযোগ, শিশু ধর্ষণ ও হত্যাচেষ্টার ঘটনা ধামাচাপা দিতে কথিত সালিশের মাধ্যমে জোরপূর্বক বিয়ে এবং পরবর্তীতে প্রতারণার মাধ্যমে তালাক ও কাবিনের অর্থ আত্মসাৎ করা হয়েছে।
মেহেন্দিগঞ্জ থানার পরিদর্শক (তদন্ত) মো. মতিউর রহমান জানান, ঘটনাটি তদন্তাধীন রয়েছে এবং শিগগিরই তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন আদালতে দাখিল করা হবে।
নড়াইলের নড়াগাতী থানার যোগানিয়া হাট সরকারিভাবে খাস ঘোষণা করা হলেও সেখানে এখনো টোলের নামে চলছে চাঁদাবাজি —এমন অভিযোগ উঠেছে স্থানীয় বিক্রেতা ও ব্যবসায়ীদের কাছ থেকে।
সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্রে জানা যায়, গত বছর টেন্ডারের মাধ্যমে হাটের ইজারা পান বিএনপি নেতা শরাফত আলী (শবো)। ইজারার মূল্য নির্ধারণ করা হয় ১৭ লাখ ৮০০ টাকা। এর মধ্যে ১০ লাখ টাকা পরিশোধ করলেও বাকি অর্থ পরিশোধ করতে না পারায় উপজেলা প্রশাসন পরবর্তীতে হাটটিকে খাস ঘোষণা করে।
কিন্তু বাস্তবে খাস ঘোষণার কোনো প্রভাব দেখা যাচ্ছে না বলে অভিযোগ করেছেন হাটের ব্যবসায়ীরা। সরেজমিন হাটে গিয়ে বিক্রেতা ও দোকানিদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে জানা যায়, তারা অনেকেই জানেন না যে হাটটি খাস ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে। প্রতি হাটে আগের মতোই অতিরিক্ত হারে টোল আদায় করা হচ্ছে।
ব্যবসায়ীদের অভিযোগ, পূর্বের ইজারাদার পক্ষের লোকজন এখনো টোল আদায় করছে। ঈদকে কেন্দ্র করে অতিরিক্ত ‘বোনাস’ নামেও টাকা আদায় করা হচ্ছে বলে জানান তারা।
স্থানীয় সূত্রে আরও জানা গেছে, শরাফত আলী শবো হাটটি কয়েকটি ভাগে ভাগ করে সাপ্তাহিক দুই দিনের হাট বিভিন্ন ব্যক্তির কাছে দিয়ে দেন। তাদের মধ্যে হাফিজ, রিপন, মহ্মের, লুৎফার, দেলবার, মন্টু মাস্টার ও পাগলা কুদ্দুসসহ কয়েকজনের নাম উঠে এসেছে। অভিযোগ রয়েছে, তারা অতিরিক্ত মুনাফার আশায় ক্রেতা-বিক্রেতাদের ওপর চাপ সৃষ্টি করে টোল আদায় করছেন এবং সরকারি কোনো নিয়ম-নীতির তোয়াক্কা করছেন না।
এ বিষয়ে কালিয়া উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা (ইউএনও) মো :- জিন্নাতুল ইসলাম Dmc news 24 কে বলেন, “হাটটি খাস ঘোষণার পর কোনো ব্যক্তি বা গোষ্ঠীর মাধ্যমে টোল আদায়ের সুযোগ নেই। এ বিষয়টি আপনাদের মাধ্যমে জানতে পেরেছি, বিষয়টি তদন্ত করে প্রয়োজনীয় আইনগত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।”
এ ঘটনায় স্থানীয়দের মধ্যে ক্ষোভ বিরাজ করছে। দ্রুত প্রশাসনিক হস্তক্ষেপের মাধ্যমে অনিয়ম বন্ধের দাবি জানিয়েছেন তারা।
নড়াইলের নড়াগাতী থানার কলাবাড়ীয়া ইউনিয়নে আট বছরের ১টি শিশু ধর্ষণের শিকার হয়েছে। ১৩ মার্চ (শুক্রবার) সন্ধ্যায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে।
স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, মাথাভাঙা গুচ্ছগ্রামের মৃত দুদু মোল্যার ছেলে ধর্ষক আলী মোল্যা (৫০)কে এলাকাবাসী আটক করে পুলিশের নিকট হস্তান্তর করে। ভুক্তভোগী স্থানীয় একটি সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ের তৃতীয় শ্রেণির ছাত্রী। এ ঘটনায় ভুক্তভোগীর পিতা বাদী হয়ে নড়াগাতী থানায় একটি ধর্ষন মামলা দায়ের করেছেন। মামলা নং- ১০/১৪।
ভুক্তভোগীর পারিবারিক সূত্রে জানা যায়, ঘটনার দিন সন্ধ্যায় ওই শিশু ঘরের পিছন থেকে প্রাকৃতিক কাজ শেষে বের হলে আলী মোল্যা মেয়েটির মুখ বেঁধে বাড়ীর অদূরে পানের বরজে নিয়ে ধর্ষণ করে। এ সময় শিশুর চিৎকারে তার চাচা এগিয়ে গেলে ধর্ষক পালিয়ে যায়। এ ঘটনা জানাজানি হলে স্থানীয়রা তাকে আটক করে পুলিশে দেয়।
এ বিষয়ে নড়াগাতী থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ, (ওসি) আব্দুর রহিম বলেন, এ ঘটনায় শিশুটির পিতা বাদী হয়ে একটি ধর্ষণ মামলা দায়ের করেছেন। আসামীকে বিজ্ঞ আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়েছে এবং অন্যান্য আইনগত ব্যবস্থা প্রক্রিয়াধীন রয়েছে।
Injured receive primary treatment at hospital, says Kotwali OC
A priest was injured as a bomb exploded at Kaligach Tala Kali Mondir during the weekly Shani puja in Baganbari Thakurpara area in Cumilla city on Saturday evening, said police.
Two others — Abdul Barek and Jihad — were also injured when the miscreants exploded two crude bombs in front of a nearby Buddhist temple and a private office while fleeing.
Priest Keshob Chakraborty, 48, and two others received primary treatment at a hospital, said Md Touhidul Anwar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station.
Sajol Kumar Chanda, president of Mandir Committee, said the bomb exploded inside the temple around 6:30pm during the Shani puja.
Witnesses who came to the temple said that Shani puja was underway at the temple in the Thakurpara area on Saturday evening. At that time, a bomb went off.
A CCTV footage shows that at 6:28pm, a masked individual entered the temple carrying a bag. Several others were seen standing nearby. At one stage, the person left the bag and quickly ran away.
Shortly afterwards, the bomb exploded there. The explosion created panic among the people present at the temple, and priest Keshab Chakraborty was injured.
Locals said that while fleeing after the incident, the miscreants detonated two more bombs in front of a nearby Buddhist temple and a private office.
As a result, Abdul Barek, son of Sujat Ali of Thakurpara Baganbari area, and Jihad, son of Nazrul Islam, were injured. They received primary treatment at a hospital.
Injured priest Keshab Chakraborty said, “After the bomb explosion, a white object fell in front of me. At first, I thought something had fallen from a tree. Later, seeing smoke, others told me it was a bomb. However, I cannot say who threw it or why.”
Shyamal Krishna, convener of the Metropolitan Puja Celebration Front, said, “After receiving the news, we came to the scene. It is still not clear who carried out this attack. Police have collected CCTV footage. Those who are trying to disturb the peaceful environment must be arrested quickly and brought under the law.”
OC Kotwali Model Police Station, Md Touhidul Anwar, said, “We have collected CCTV footage from the scene. The matter is under investigation. It is not possible to say right now why or who carried out the crude explosions. However, operations are ongoing to arrest those involved.”
He said a team from the bomb disposal unit has been called to investigate the explosion.
Meanwhile, Cumilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Anisuzzaman visited the scene shortly after the incident. During the visit, he said that police are working to uncover the real cause behind the incident and arrest those responsible.
Law enforcers cordoned off the temple premises, he added.
পদ্মা সেতুর জাজিরা প্রান্তের নাওডোবা এলাকায় অস্থায়ী বাসস্টপ থেকে বিভিন্ন যানবাহন থেকে চাঁদা আদায়ের অভিযোগে জুয়েল হাওলাদার নামের এক ব্যক্তিকে আটক করেছে পদ্মা সেতু দক্ষিণ থানা পুলিশ।
শনিবার বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন পদ্মা সেতু দক্ষিণ থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) শাহ আলম।
স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, দীর্ঘদিন ধরে নাওডোবা এলাকার অস্থায়ী বাসস্টপে বিভিন্ন বাস, মাইক্রোবাস ও অন্যান্য যানবাহন থেকে প্রকাশ্যে চাঁদা আদায় করে আসছিল জুয়েল হাওলাদার। তবে এতদিন ধরে প্রকাশ্যে চাঁদাবাজি চললেও আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর দৃশ্যমান কোনো পদক্ষেপ দেখা যায়নি বলে অভিযোগ রয়েছে স্থানীয়দের।
সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে একটি চাঁদা তোলার ভিডিও ভাইরাল হলে বিষয়টি নতুন করে আলোচনায় আসে। ভাইরাল হওয়া ওই ভিডিওতে দেখা যায়, চাঁদা আদায়ের বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে দাপুটে কণ্ঠে জুয়েল হাওলাদার বলেন, “এইডা শিবচর না, এইডা শরীয়তপুর।” তার এমন বক্তব্যে এলাকাজুড়ে সমালোচনার ঝড় ওঠে।
ভিডিওটি ছড়িয়ে পড়ার পরপরই পদ্মা সেতু দক্ষিণ থানা পুলিশ অভিযান চালিয়ে তাকে আটক করে।
তবে স্থানীয়দের প্রশ্ন, পদ্মা সেতু চালুর পর থেকেই নাওডোবা এলাকায় দীর্ঘদিন ধরে প্রকাশ্যে চাঁদাবাজি চললেও পুলিশ কেন আগে কোনো ব্যবস্থা নেয়নি? ভিডিও ভাইরাল হওয়ার পরই কেন তাকে আটক করা হলো এ নিয়ে জনমনে নানা প্রশ্ন দেখা দিয়েছে।

এ বিষয়ে পদ্মা সেতু দক্ষিণ থানার ওসি শাহ আলম বলেন, আমি ওসি হিসাবে গত তিন মাস যাবত আছি এর মাঝে আমি কোনো অভিযোগ পাইনি কিংবা আমাদের নলেজেও আসেনি এটা সমঝোতার মাঝে হয় কিনা জানতে চাইলে ওসি বলেন, এটা আমার জানা নেই তবে আমরা জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করছি দুপক্ষের বক্তব্য শুনে তার বিরুদ্ধে প্রয়োজনীয় আইনগত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।
বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রিম কোর্টের প্রধান বিচারপতির মূল প্রবেশপথের পাশ থেকে অবিস্ফোরিত অবস্থায় ছয়টি সাউন্ড গ্রেনেড উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। রোববার (৮ মার্চ) দুপুর দেড়টার দিকে গেটের ডান পাশে পড়ে থাকা অবস্থায় এই বস্তুগুলো শনাক্ত করা হয়। তবে এই ঘটনায় কোনো ধরনের ক্ষয়ক্ষতি বা হতাহতের খবর পাওয়া যায়নি।
প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী ও আদালত সূত্রে জানা গেছে, দুপুরে প্রধান বিচারপতির প্রবেশপথের কাছে সন্দেহজনক কিছু বস্তু পড়ে থাকতে দেখে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে শাহবাগ থানা পুলিশকে খবর দেওয়া হয়। তথ্য পাওয়ার পরপরই পুলিশ দ্রুত ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছে পুরো এলাকাটি ঘিরে ফেলে এবং নিরাপত্তা জোরদার করে।
গ্রেনেডগুলো কে বা কারা সেখানে রেখেছে, তা এখনো নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায়নি।
পরবর্তীতে ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) বোম্ব ডিসপোজাল ইউনিটকে খবর দেওয়া হলে একটি বিশেষজ্ঞ দল ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছায়। দুপুর ২টার দিকে তারা সাউন্ড গ্রেনেডগুলো উদ্ধার করে নিরাপদ স্থানে নিয়ে যায় এবং পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষার পর সেগুলো নিষ্ক্রিয় করে। প্রয়োজনীয় আলামত সংগ্রহের পর গ্রেনেডগুলো বিশেষজ্ঞ দলটি তাদের হেফাজতে নিয়ে গেছে।
এই ঘটনার পর সুপ্রিম কোর্ট এলাকায় নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা আরও জোরদার করা হয়েছে। কে বা কোন চক্র বিচার বিভাগের সর্বোচ্চ প্রশাসনিক কর্মকর্তার প্রবেশপথে এ ধরনের আতঙ্ক সৃষ্টির চেষ্টা করেছে, তা উদ্ঘাটনে পুলিশ তদন্ত শুরু করেছে। সিসিটিভি ফুটেজ বিশ্লেষণ করে দায়ীদের শনাক্ত করার প্রক্রিয়া চলছে বলে আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনী সূত্রে জানা গেছে।

Relatives of mob beating victims in Munshiganj share ordeal
Relatives of the two men who were beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of theft in Munshiganj have alleged that the victims were brutally tortured before they were murdered early Wednesday.
“They rubbed chilli powder on their wounds and forced them to drink dirty water,” the mother-in-law of one of the deceased said, describing the horrific ordeal.
The two victims — Sagar, 25, son of Farhad Mia, and Chhanarul, 20, son of Shahidul Islam, residents of Goalimandra village — were attacked by locals in Louhajang upazila in the dead of the night and later declared dead after being taken to a local upazila health complex.
“My son went to call his friend during sehri. Some people caught him and beat him to death. They killed my child. My precious son is gone…,” Chhanarul’s mother Rokhsana told The Daily Star in a trembling voice.
She was sobbing uncontrollably, sitting in her small shack.
A member of the Bede community, Chhanarul was the second of three siblings.
Still struggling to contain her grief, Rokhsana said her son had never been accused of any wrongdoing.
“They suspected him of theft and caught him. But there was never any complaint against him. Those who beat him to death are criminals. I demand the death penalty for them,” she said.
Chhanarul earned a living by selling boiled eggs door to door. He lived with other members of the Bede community in makeshift shacks along the bank of a nearly dried-up river in the area.
This correspondent also spoke with the wife of the other deceased, Sagar. Sagar left behind four children, the youngest being only three months old.
“My husband drove an auto-rickshaw. During sehri he went out to start his work. While walking to the garage, people caught him on suspicion of theft and beat him to death,” said Sagar’s widow, Jannatul.
“I was asleep. In the morning I woke up and learned that my husband had been killed.”
Sagar’s mother-in-law Aklima said, “They [the mob] hurt them and rubbed chilli powder on their wounds. They forced them to swallow dirty water. How could one kill another by making them go through such torture? Are they even human? Only Allah knows what they were made of!” she said.
Now she worries about the wellbeing of her daughter and her four grandchildren.
Officer-in-Charge of Louhajang Police Station Monirul Islam said a case has been filed over the incident.
“Chhanarul’s mother Rokhsana filed the case with Louhajang Police Station, naming nine people and accusing 15-20 unidentified accused,” he said.
“So far six suspects have been arrested and the court sent them to jail. Operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused.”

Around 10:00am, mourners visited Taqi’s grave at Siraj Shah’s shrine in the Puran Bandar area and offered prayers seeking eternal peace for his soul.
Prior to this, several organisations laid wreaths at the grave to pay tribute. These included Shantrash Nirmul Taqi Mancha, Narayanganj Sanskriti Jote, Khelaghar Ashor, Ganosamhati Andolon, Kranti Khelaghar Ashor, Somomona, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, Udichi Shilpigosthi, and Anubhob.
Those present included Taqi’s father, cultural activist Rafiur Rabbi, his younger son Rakib Muhammad Saki, member secretary of Shantrash Nirmul Taqi Mancha Halim Azad, former president of Narayanganj Sanskritik Jote Ziaul Islam Kajol, general secretary Dina Tajrin, former general secretary Dhiman Saha Jewel, district coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Tariqul Suzon, executive coordinator Anjan Das, city convener Niamur Rashid Biplob, district president of the Communist Party Hafizul Islam, NAP general secretary Awlad Hossain, among others.
Taqi was abducted on March 6, 2013, and his body was recovered two days later from a canal connected to the Shitalakhhya River. A year later, the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) disclosed details of the killing at a press conference, outlining where, how, and on whose orders the murder was carried out.
On March 5, 2014, then Rab Additional Director General Ziaul Ahsan stated that 11 people, led by Azmeri Osman, nephew of former Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman, were involved in Taqi’s killing.
According to the investigation, Taqi’s father Rabbi had angered Shamim Osman and his associates by supporting then mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy in the 2011 city corporation election and by mobilising opposition to alleged extortion and land grabbing by the lawmaker. Rabbi’s son was reportedly killed in retaliation. Following the death of Shamim Osman’s brother, lawmaker Nasim Osman, on April 30, 2014, then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed support for the Osman family in parliament. According to Taqi’s family members, the judicial process in the murder case has effectively stalled since then.
নোয়াখালীর বেগমগঞ্জ উপজেলা থেকে একটি বিদেশি পিস্তল ও দুই রাউন্ড কার্তুজসহ দুই অস্ত্রধারীকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ।
আজ শনিবার (৭ মার্চ) বিকেলে বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেন অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার (প্রশাসন ও অর্থ) আবু তৈয়ব মো.আরিফ হোসেন। এর আগে, শুক্রবার দিবাগত রাত ১টা ৫ মিনিটের দিকে উপজেলার আমানউল্যাপুর ইউনিয়নের কাঁচিহাটা সর্দার দিঘীর পাড় মোড় এলাকায় অভিযান চালিয়ে তাদের গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।
গ্রেপ্তারকৃতরা হলেন, আমানউল্যাপুর ইউনিয়নের ১নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের কাঁচিহাটা গ্রামের হাসান আলী বেপারী বাড়ির মো.মোস্তফা কামালের ছেলে ফরহাদ ইসলাম ফাহিম (২০) ও একই ওয়ার্ডের রহিম উদ্দিন বেপারী বাড়ির নুর হোসেনের ছেলে তাজুল ইসলাম সুমন (৩৪)।
পুলিশ জানায়, শুক্রবার দিবাগত রাতে বেগমগঞ্জ থানা পুলিশের একটি দল ওয়ারেন্ট তামিল ও অস্ত্র-মাদক উদ্ধারে টহল ডিউটি পালন করছিল। ওই সময় কাঁচিহাটা সর্দার দিঘীর পাড় মোড় এলাকায় সেলিমের চায়ের দোকানের সামনে তিনজন সন্দেহভাজন ব্যক্তিকে দেখে পুলিশ এগিয়ে যায়। একপর্যায়ে তারা দৌড়ে পালানোর চেষ্টা করে। পরে ধাওয়া করে দুইজনকে আটক করা হয় এবং একজন পালিয়ে যায়। আটককৃতদের জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ ও তল্লাশি চালালে ফাহিমের পরিহিত প্যান্টের কোমরের সামনে গুঁজে রাখা অবস্থায় একটি বিদেশি পিস্তল উদ্ধার করা হয়। এ সময় তার কাছ থেকে পিস্তলের দুটি তাজা কার্তুজও উদ্ধার করা হয়।
এ বিষয়ে নোয়াখালীর অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার (প্রশাসন ও অর্থ) আবু তৈয়ব মো.আরিফ হোসেন আরও বলেন, গ্রেপ্তারকৃতরা পলাতক আরেক সহযোগীকে নিয়ে এলাকায় আধিপত্য বিস্তার এবং অবৈধ অস্ত্র বেচাকেনার উদ্দেশ্যে সেখানে অবস্থান করছিল। এ ঘটনায় বেগমগঞ্জ মডেল থানায় আটক দুইজনসহ পলাতক একজনের বিরুদ্ধে অস্ত্র আইনে মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে।
বরিশালে চার বছর প্রেম করার পর বিয়েতে রাজি না হওয়ায় প্রেমিকার অশ্লীল ভিডিও ধারণ করেছে প্রেমিক। এ ঘটনায় মামলা দায়েরের পর প্রেমিককে গ্রেফতার করেছে কোতোয়ালি মডেল থানা পুলিশ।
শুক্রবার (৬ মার্চ) দিবাগত রাতে বরগুনা জেলার পল্লিবিদ্যুৎ অফিস থেকে কথিত প্রেমিক হৃদয়কে গ্রেফতার করার বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন কোতোয়ালি মডেল থানার ওসি আল মামুন উল ইসলাম।
গ্রেফতার হৃদয় মন্ডল (২৬) বানারিপাড়া উপজেলার মলুহার গ্রামের রিপন মন্ডলের ছেলে। তিনি পল্লীবিদ্যুতের কর্মচারী বলে জানা গেছে।
ওসি আল মামুন যুগান্তরকে বলেন, নগরীর এক কলেজ শিক্ষার্থী হৃদয়ের বিরুদ্ধে পর্নোগ্রাফি ও ধর্ষণ চেষ্টার অভিযোগে মামলা দায়ের করেন। মামলা দায়েরের পরপরই হৃদয়কে বরগুনা থেকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়।
মামলা সূত্রে জানা গেছে, গ্রেফতার হৃদয় ও ওই কলেজ শিক্ষার্থী একই গ্রামের বাসিন্দা। তাদের মাঝে প্রেমের সম্পর্ক ছিল। কয়েকদিন আগে হৃদয় বিবাহের কথা বললে তাতে রাজি হয়নি প্রেমিকা। এরপর হৃদয় তাকে মারধর ও জামাকাপড় খুলে ভিডিও ধারণ করে বিবাহের কথা বলে চলে যায়। এরপর শুক্রবার কোতোয়ালি মডেল থানায় হৃদয়ের বিরদ্ধে মামলা দায়ের করেন ওই তরুণী।
প্রেমিক হৃদয় বলেন, তার সঙ্গে চার বছর যাবত প্রেম চলছে ওই তরুণীর। গত বছর বরিশালের অমৃতলাল দে কলেজে ভর্তি হওয়ার পর একাধিক ছেলের সঙ্গে প্রেমের সম্পর্কে জড়িয়ে পরেন তার প্রেমিকা। তাই তাকে ছেড়ে যেন অন্য কোনো ছেলেকে বিবাহ না করতে পারে সেজন্য প্রেমিকার ভিডিও ধারণ করে মোবাইলে সংরক্ষণ করে রাখে হৃদয়।
বগুড়ার সারিয়াকান্দিতে জমি নিয়ে বিরোধের জেরে প্রতিপক্ষের হামলায় এক শিক্ষক নিহত হয়েছেন। শুক্রবার (৬ মার্চ) রাতে তারাবিহ নামাজের পর উপজেলার ফুলবাড়ি ইউনিয়নের বাজার এলাকায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে।
নিহত শিক্ষক চয়ন রাজভর (৩০) ফুলবাড়ির ‘দ্য নিউ কনটেস্ট কোচিং সেন্টারের পরিচালক ও শিক্ষক। এ ঘটনায় নিহতের বড় ভাই প্রদীপ রাজভর সারিয়াকান্দি থানায় আটজনের নাম উল্লেখ করে ১৫ জনের বিরুদ্ধে মামলা করেছেন। পাঁচ আসামিকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।
পুলিশ ও মামলা সূত্রে জানা গেছে, জমি নিয়ে শাহীন ফকিরের সঙ্গে একই এলাকার তুলারাম রাজভরের ছেলে চয়নের বিরোধ চলে আসছে। এ নিয়ে আদালতে একাধিক মামলা চলমান রয়েছে। শুক্রবার রাত সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে শাহীন ফকিরের লোকজন ওই বিরোধপূর্ণ জমিতে অবস্থান নেন।
খবর পেয়ে চয়নের লোকজন সেখানে বাধা দিতে যান। তখন দুই পক্ষের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষ শুরু হয়।
প্রতিপক্ষের ছুরিকাঘাতে চয়ন ও তার ভাই নয়ন রাজভর (৩৪) গুরুতর আহত হন। এতে প্রতিপক্ষের আমিনুল ফকির আহত হন।
আহতদের উদ্ধার করে সারিয়াকান্দি উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে নিলে চিকিৎসক চয়নকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন। আহত নয়নকে উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য বগুড়া শহীদ জিয়াউর রহমান মেডিকেল কলেজ (শজিমেক) হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়।
নিহতের বড় ভাই প্রদীপ সারিয়াকান্দি থানায় আটজনের নাম উল্লেখ করে ১৫ জনের বিরুদ্ধে হত্যা মামলা করেন। মামলার আসামিরা হলেন- বগুড়ার সারিয়াকান্দি উপজেলার ফুলবাড়ি ইউনিয়নের বাজার এলাকার মৃত নাজিম উদ্দিন ফকিরের ছেলে শাহীন ফকির (৪০), আমিনুল ফকির (৪৫) ও ফাইন ফকির (৪২), শাহীন ফকিরের ছেলে রাহাত ফকির (২০) ও রাকিব ফকির (২৬), আমিনুল ফকিরের ছেলে রাব্বি ফকির (২১) ও নূরনবী জনি ফকির (২৮) এবং মৃত জিন্নাহ ফকিরের ছেলে তাহের ফকির (৪৫)।
পুলিশ রাতেই অভিযান চালিয়ে আসামি শাহীন ফকির, আমিনুল ফকির, রাব্বি ফকির, রাকিব ফকির এবং তাহের ফকিরকে গ্রেফতার করে।
শিক্ষক চয়ন রাজভর নিহত ও নয়ন আহত হওয়ার ঘটনায় ‘দ্য নিউ কনটেস্ট কোচিং সেন্টারের শিক্ষার্থীরা শনিবার সকালে এলাকায় বিক্ষোভ মিছিল বের করেন। ফুলবাড়ি বাজার থেকে শুরু হওয়া মিছিলটি সারিয়াকান্দি উপজেলা পরিষদে গিয়ে শেষ হয়। সেখানে শিক্ষার্থীরা উপজেলা প্রশাসনের প্রধান সড়ক অবরোধ করে বিক্ষোভ প্রদর্শন করেন। এতে ওই সড়কে যানবাহন চলাচল বন্ধ হয়ে যায়।
পরে প্রশাসনের হস্তক্ষেপে যানবাহন চলাচল স্বাভাবিক হয়। শিক্ষার্থীরা চয়ন রাজভরের হত্যাকারীদের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির দাবিতে উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তাকে স্মারকলিপি প্রদান করেন।
উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা সুমাইয়া ফেরদৌস শিক্ষার্থীদের বলেন, হত্যাকাণ্ডের ঘটনাটি খুবই দুঃখজনক। স্মারকলিপির ভিত্তিতে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী কাজ শুরু করেছে। নিহতের পরিবার যাতে দ্রুত বিচার পায় তার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হবে।
সারিয়াকান্দি থানার ওসি আ ফ ম আসাদুজ্জামান জানান, পুলিশ অভিযান চালিয়ে ১৫ আসামির মধ্যে পাঁচজনকে গ্রেফতার করেছে। অন্যদের গ্রেফতারে অভিযান চলছে। শনিবার সকালে আসামিদের আদালতের মাধ্যমে বগুড়া জেল হাজতে পাঠানো হয়েছে। এছাড়া মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে বগুড়া শজিমেক হাসপাতাল মর্গে পাঠানো হয়। এলাকার আইন-শৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক রয়েছে।
2026.3.6 আইভীর পাঁচ মামলায় হাইকোর্টের জামিন স্থগিত করলো চেম্বার আদালত
নারায়ণগঞ্জ সিটি করপোরেশনের সাবেক মেয়র সেলিনা হায়াৎ আইভীর বিরুদ্ধে হত্যাসহ পৃথক পাঁচ মামলায় হাইকোর্টের দেওয়া অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন জামিন স্থগিত করেছেন সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আপিল বিভাগের চেম্বার আদালত।
বৃহস্পতিবার চেম্বার আদালতের বিচারপতি মো. রেজাউল হক এই আদেশ দেন। আদালত একই সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট বিষয়ে আগামী ৯ মার্চ আপিল বিভাগের পূর্ণাঙ্গ বেঞ্চে শুনানির দিন ধার্য করেছেন।
গত ২৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি হাইকোর্ট আইভীকে এই পাঁচ মামলায় জামিন দিয়েছিল। পরে রাষ্ট্রপক্ষ হাইকোর্টের আদেশের বিরুদ্ধে আপিল বিভাগে আবেদন করে।
রাষ্ট্রপক্ষে শুনানিতে অংশ নেন ডেপুটি অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল মো. জহিরুল ইসলাম সুমন ও মো. আক্তারুজ্জামান। আইভীর পক্ষে ছিলেন জ্যেষ্ঠ আইনজীবী সারা হোসেন ও মোতাহার হোসেন সাজু। রাষ্ট্রপক্ষের আইনজীবী জহিরুল ইসলাম সুমন সংবাদমাধ্যমকে বলেন, “হাইকোর্টের আদেশ স্থগিত করার জন্য আমরা আবেদন করেছিলাম। আদালত ৯ মার্চ পর্যন্ত জামিন স্থগিত করে পূর্ণাঙ্গ বেঞ্চে শুনানির জন্য পাঠিয়েছেন।”
আইভীর বিরুদ্ধে এই পাঁচ মামলার মধ্যে চারটি হত্যা মামলা করা হয়েছে নারায়ণগঞ্জের ফতুল্লা থানায়। আরেকটি মামলা করা হয়েছে সরকারি কাজে বাধা দেওয়ার অভিযোগে নারায়ণগঞ্জ সদর মডেল থানায়। অধস্তন আদালতে জামিন নামঞ্জুর হওয়ার পর আইভী হাইকোর্টে জামিনের জন্য আবেদন করেছিলেন।
২০২৫ সালের ৯ মে নারায়ণগঞ্জের দেওভোগ এলাকার নিজ বাসা থেকে আইভীকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। গ্রেপ্তারের পর বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র জনতার আন্দোলনের সময়ে সংঘটিত তিনটি হত্যা মামলা ও দুটি হত্যাচেষ্টা মামলায় পুলিশ তাকে গ্রেপ্তার দেখায়।
A total of 165 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from Libya with the assistance of the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Libyan government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
They returned to Bangladesh at 5:30am on Friday on a Buraq Air flight.
Of the returnees, 143 had been detained at the Ganfouda Detention Centre in Benghazi, while the remaining 22 were distressed, vulnerable and physically ill Bangladeshis who had been living in Benghazi and nearby areas and expressed willingness to return home voluntarily.
According to officials, most of the repatriated migrants had entered Libya irregularly after being lured and assisted by human traffickers while attempting to reach Europe illegally by sea.
Many of them also alleged that they had been kidnapped and subjected to torture at different times in Libya.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other relevant ministries and the International Organization for Migration received the returnees at the airport.
To raise public awareness, the Foreign Ministry requested the returnees to share their difficult experiences with others.
The International Organization for Migration provided each returnee with travel allowances, food items, primary medical care and temporary accommodation where necessary.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the International Organization for Migration are continuing to work together to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals detained at various detention centres in Libya, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
টাঙ্গাইলে চোরাই মোটরসাইকেলসহ আন্তঃজেলা চক্রের পাঁচ সদস্য গ্রেফতার টাঙ্গাইল সদর থানা পুলিশ অভিযান চালিয়ে তিনটি চোরাই মোটরসাইকেল ও আন্তঃজেলা মোটরসাইকেল চোর চক্রের পাঁচ সক্রিয় সদস্যকে গ্রেফতার করেছে। বুধবার গভীর রাতে শহরের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় পৃথক অভিযান চালিয়ে তাদের গ্রেফতার করা হয়। পুলিশ জানায়, তারা একটি সংঘবদ্ধ চক্রের সদস্য হয়ে দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলা থেকে মোটরসাইকেল চুরি করে টাঙ্গাইল ও আশপাশের এলাকায় সেগুলো বিক্রি করে আসছিল।টাঙ্গাইল সদর থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ (ওসি)জানান,গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে এই অভিযান পরিচালনা করা হয়। এসময় তাদের কাছ থেকে তিনটি চোরাই মোটরসাইকেল জব্দ করা হয়েছে। গ্রেফতারকৃতদের বিরুদ্ধে সদর থানায় মামলা দায়েরের পর আজ বৃহস্পতিবার আদালতের মাধ্যমে কারাগারে পাঠানো হয়েছে। পুলিশের এমন সফল অভিযানে এলাকায় স্বস্তি ফিরেছে বলে জানিয়েছেন স্থানীয়রা।
নড়াইলের কালিয়া উপজেলা আনসার ভিডিপি কর্মকর্তা মোছাঃ মমতাজ পারভীনের বিরুদ্ধে নির্বাচনী ডিউটির জন্য অর্থ লেনদেনের অভিযোগ করেছে ইউনিয়ন দলনেত্রী সাধনা রানী দাস।
তিনি আরো বলেন, ইউনিয়ন সহকারী প্লাটন কমান্ডার, পাভেল গাজী ইউনিয়ন সহকারী প্লাটন কমান্ডার বুলু (কম্পিউটার অপারেটর কালিয়া উপজেলা আভি কার্যালয়) এর যোগসাজসে আমার কাছ থেকে নির্বাচন ডিউটির জন্য ভিডিপি সার্টিফিকেট বিহীন লোকের ডিউটি প্রদানের আশ্বাসে কয়েক দফাই প্রাই ৩১২০০ টাকা আত্মসাৎ করেন।
নির্বাচন ডিউটিতে (৪০ জনের) নাম রেজিস্ট্রেশন এন্ট্রি আবেদন বাবদ ২.২০০/- টাকা, ভিডিপি ট্রেনিং সার্টিফিকেট বিহীন ১০ জনের ডিউটি দেওয়ার আশ্বাসে ৮,০০০/- টাকা, ভিডিপি ট্রেনিং সার্টিফিকেটবিহীন আরও ১০ জনের ডিউটি দেওয়ার আশ্বাসে ১৩.০০০/- টাকা, নির্বাচন ডিউটির জন্য আবেদন করেননি এমন ৬ জনের ডিউটি দেওয়ার আশ্বাসে ৫.০০০/- টাকা, সাধনা রানি দাশের স্বামী সংকর ও ছেলে সোহাগের (ভিডিপি ট্রেনিং সার্টিফিকেটবিহীন) নাম নির্বাচন ডিউটিতে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করার বাবদ ৩০০০/- টাকা উৎকোচ গ্রহণ করেন।
কিন্তু আমার দেওয়া ৬০ জন লোকের নির্বাচন ডিউটির দেওয়ার কথা থাকলেও ৩৮ জোনের ডিউটি প্রদান করেন (ভিডিপি ট্রেনিং সার্টিফিকেট আছে) এবং ভিডিপি ট্রেনিং সার্টিফিকেট ছাড়া ১০ জন নির্বাচন ডিউটি করলেও ৪ জনের (জহিরুল, টুটুল ফকির, সুইটি, ইয়াছিন মুন্সী, অন্য জনের পরিবর্তে ডিউটি করেন) নির্বাচনী বিলের টাকা প্রদানে অস্বীকৃতি জ্ঞাপন করেন। এমতাবস্তায় মোছাঃ মমতাজ পারভীনের সাথে কথা বলতে চাইলে তিনি অকথ্য ভাষায় গালিগালাজ করেন। নির্বাচন ডিউটি বাবদ টাকা প্রদানকারী ব্যক্তিরা আমার ঘর বাড়ি ভেঙ্গে দেওয়ার হুমকি প্রদান করেন।
এ বিষয়ে কালিয়া উপজেলা আনসার ভিডিপি কর্মকর্তা মোছাঃ মমতাজ পারভীনের কাছে জানতে চাইলে তিনি বলেন জেলা অফিসে একটি অভিযোগ হয়েছিল কিন্তু অভিয়োগ মিথ্যা হওয়ায় তদন্তের রায় আমার পক্ষে এসেছে । অভিয়োগকারী সঙ্গে কোনো কলহ আছে কি জানতে চাইলে বলেন, কেনো কলহ নেই।
এ বিষয়ে কালিয়া উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা বলেন, আমাদের কাছে একটি চিঠি দিছে সে বিষয়ে নড়াইল জেলা আনসার ভিডিপি কর্মকর্তা কে বলেছি তদন্তপূর্বক প্রযোজনীয় ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করতে ।
এ বিষয়ে নড়াইল জেলা আনসার ভিডিপি কর্মকর্তা কে মুঠোফোনে কল দিলে তিনি ফোনটি তোলেননি।
Police recover knife, 133 empty shotgun cartridges, 2 slingshot rifles during raid
Police have arrested the Sajjada Nashin of Sureshwar Darbar Sharif in Shariatpur, in connection with the murder of khadem Zainal Sarkar, who was killed on October 24, 2025.
Pir Toahidul Hossain Shaheen Noori was arrested during a raid at his residence on early Wednesday, aided by information technology, said police.
Officers recovered a knife believed to have been used in the killing, along with firearms and other evidence.
Officer‑in‑Charge Bahar Mia of Naria Police Station confirmed the arrest.
Zainal’s body was found stuffed inside a plastic sack in a pond at Atpara area under Garishar union. His daughter, Eva Akter, later filed a murder case on October 25, against unidentified individuals.
Police said two suspects were identified through CCTV footage and digital forensics.
Robin Sheikh, 32, was arrested in Munshiganj recently, and information from him led to Shaheen Noori’s arrest.
Only Chanchal Chandra Sarkar, another accused, is currently in custody, while others remain absconding.
According to Naria Police Station offcials, during the raid, police seized a knife — believed to have been used in the murder, 133 empty shotgun cartridges, six hard drives, one SSD, four walkie‑talkie sets, one DVR, three Android phones, four feature phones, two slingshot rifles, and various shotgun parts along with a shotgun box.
The arrestees are being interrogated, with efforts underway to determine the motive and apprehend others involved.
Police said the accused will be produced before the court.
রাজধানীতে রুমমেটকে হত্যার পর মরদেহ সাত খণ্ড করে বিভিন্ন স্থানে ফেলে দেওয়ার অভিযোগে হবিগঞ্জের শাহিন আলম নামে এক যুবককে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ।
প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে অভিযুক্ত শাহীন আলম হত্যাকাণ্ডে জড়িত থাকার কথা স্বীকার করেছেন।
রোববার ঢাকা মহানগর পুলিশর (ডিএমপি) মতিঝিল বিভাগের উপকমিশনার হারুন-অর-রশীদ মিন্টো রোডের মিডিয়া সেন্টারে এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এ তথ্য জানান।
পুলিশ জানায়, শাহীন রাজধানীর মতিঝিলে রুমমেট মোহাম্মদ ওবায়দুল্লাহকে হত্যার পর মরদেহ সাত টুকরো করে ঢাকার পাঁচটি স্থানে ফেলে আসেন। কালো পলিথিনে ভরে তিনি শুক্রবার রাত ১২টা থেকে শনিবার সকাল সাড়ে ৮টার মধ্যে মরদেহের অংশগুলো ফেলে দেন।
শনিবার নয়াপল্টনের স্কাউট ভবনের সামনে প্রথমে একটি কাটা পা উদ্ধার করে পুলিশ। পরে গুলিস্তান স্টেডিয়ামের ১৩ নম্বর গেটের কাছে দুটি কাটা হাত এবং কমলাপুর রেলস্টেশনের প্ল্যাটফর্ম থেকে আরও একটি পা উদ্ধার করা হয়। আঙুলের ছাপের মাধ্যমে নিহতের পরিচয় শনাক্ত হয়।
নিহত ওবায়দুল্লাহ নরসিংদীর শিবপুর উপজেলার বাসিন্দা এবং গণস্বাস্থ্য হোমিও ক্লিনিক-এর বিপণন বিভাগে কর্মরত ছিলেন। তার সূত্র ধরে পুলিশ শনিবার দুপুরে শাহীনকে গ্রেপ্তার করে।
পুলিশ জানায়, তিন মাস আগে হবিগঞ্জ থেকে ঢাকায় এসে গুলিস্তানের একটি হোটেলে চাকরি নেন শাহীন। পরে কম বেতনের কারণে চাকরি ছেড়ে বন্ধুর মাধ্যমে মতিঝিলে বসবাস শুরু করেন। বন্ধু মারুফ হবিগঞ্জে চলে গেলে তিনি ওবায়দুল্লাহর সঙ্গে কবি জসীম উদ্দীন রোডের একটি বাসার ছয়তলায় থাকতেন।
ঘটনার রাতে ওবায়দুল্লাহর সঙ্গে সিগারেট ও খাবার কেনা নিয়ে তর্কাতর্কির একপর্যায়ে শাহীন ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে রান্নাঘরের চাপাতি দিয়ে তাকে কুপিয়ে হত্যা করেন। পরে মরদেহ খণ্ড করে কালো পলিথিনে ভরে বিভিন্ন স্থানে ফেলে দেন তিনি।
পুলিশ জানায়, শাহীন মরদেহের বিভিন্ন অংশ নয়াপল্টন, গুলিস্তান, কমলাপুর ও আমিনবাজার এলাকার বিভিন্ন স্থানে ফেলে আসেন। তার দেওয়া তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে পুলিশ ময়লার ভাগাড় থেকে মাথা উদ্ধার করেছে, তবে মরদেহের বুকের অংশ এখনো পাওয়া যায়নি। ঘটনার পর মতিঝিল থানায় শাহীন আলমের বিরুদ্ধে হত্যা মামলা হয়েছে।
নড়াইলের লোহাগড়া উপজেলার কোটাকোল ইউনিয়নের মাইগ্রামের সাইদুল শেখের মেয়ে সোনিয়া বেগম (২৫) হত্যার অভিযোগে স্বামী সজিবসহ জড়িতদের ফাঁসির দাবিতে মানববন্ধন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে।
বৃহস্পতিবার (২২ জানুয়ারি) বেলা ১১টায় লক্ষীপাশা-মহাজন সড়কের মাইগ্রাম চৌরাস্তায় এ মানববন্ধন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। মানববন্ধনে সোনিয়ার স্বজনসহ এলাকার দুই শতাধিক নারী-পুরুষ অংশগ্রহণ করেন। মানববন্ধন শেষে একটি প্রতিবাদ মিছিল বের করা হয়।
মানববন্ধনে বক্তারা বলেন, “সোনিয়া হত্যার বিচার চাই, সজিবের ফাঁসি চাই।”
স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা বাবুল আহমেদ বাবু বলেন, মাত্র তিন মাস আগে সোনিয়াকে গোপালগঞ্জ জেলার কাশিয়ানি উপজেলার ফলসী গ্রামের কাদের মোল্যার ছেলে সজিবের সঙ্গে বিয়ে দেওয়া হয়। বিয়ের সময় মেয়ের সুখের কথা চিন্তা করে পরিবার থেকে পাঁচ লাখ টাকা ও স্বর্ণালংকার দেওয়া হয়।
বিয়ের কিছুদিন পর থেকেই সজিব আরও টাকা দাবি করতে থাকেন এবং সোনিয়ার ওপর শারীরিক নির্যাতন চালান বলে অভিযোগ করেন স্বজনরা। সোনিয়া বিষয়টি তার পরিবারকে জানালে তারা জামাইয়ের কাছে সময় চান। কিন্তু এরপরও নির্যাতন বন্ধ হয়নি।
স্বজনদের অভিযোগ, গত মঙ্গলবার (২০ জানুয়ারি) সকাল ৮টায় সোনিয়া তার মায়ের সঙ্গে মোবাইল ফোনে কথা বলেন। এর প্রায় দুই ঘণ্টা পর গ্রামের এক ইউপি সদস্য ফোন করে সোনিয়ার বাবার বাড়িতে জানান, সোনিয়া মারা গেছে। খবর পেয়ে স্বজনরা গোপালগঞ্জের ফলসী গ্রামে সোনিয়ার শ্বশুরবাড়িতে গিয়ে খাটের ওপর তার নিথর দেহ পড়ে থাকতে দেখেন এবং শরীরের বিভিন্ন স্থানে আঘাতের চিহ্ন দেখতে পান।
সোনিয়ার পরিবারের দাবি, এটি পরিকল্পিত হত্যা এবং তারা ঘটনার সঙ্গে জড়িতদের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তি চান। মানববন্ধনে সোনিয়ার বোন সুমি বেগম, মা নূর নাহার বেগম, প্রতিবেশী শাহানাজ বেগমসহ আরও অনেকে বক্তব্য রাখেন।
এ বিষয়ে কাশিয়ানি থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মোঃ মাহফুজুর রহমান বলেন, নিহতের মরদেহের ময়নাতদন্ত সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। পরিবার থেকে অভিযোগ পেলে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হবে।
বরগুনার তালতলী উপজেলার পচাকোড়ালিয়া ইউনিয়নের বড় পাড়া গ্রামে জহিরুল ইসলাম নামে এক ভেকু (মাটিকাটামেশিন)চালককেকুপিয়েওপিটিয়েকুপিয়েওপিটিয়ে গুরুতর জখম করার অভিযোগ উঠেছে। গত ১৩ জানুয়ারি (মঙ্গলবার) বিকেলে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। চাঁদানাদেওয়ায়একইগ্রামেরজাফর, ইব্রাহিমওরিয়াজসহতাদেরসহযোগীরাএইহামলা চালায়বলে জানা গেছে।

মামলারবিবরণীতেসুলতানাবেগমউল্লেখকরেন, তাঁর স্বামী জহিরুল ভেকু চালিয়ে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করেন। আসামিরা দীর্ঘদিন ধরে তাঁর কাছে চাঁদা দাবি করে আসছিল। ঘটনার দিন আসামিরা জহিরুলকে ঘিরে ধরে এক লক্ষ টাকা চাঁদা দাবি করে। চাঁদা দিতে অস্বীকার করায় ২নং আসামি ইব্রাহিমের হুকুমে ১নং আসামি জাফর ধারালো অস্ত্রদিয়ে জহিরুলের মাথায় আঘাত করে।
হামলায় জহিরুলের মাথার হাড় ভেঙে রক্তাক্ত জখমহয়। এ সময় অন্যান্য আসামিরা লোহার রড ও লাঠি দিয়ে পিটিয়ে তাঁর নাকের হাড় ভেঙে দেয় এবং দাঁতফেলে দেয়। এছাড়াও বুকের ওপর পিটিয়ে ফুসফুস ও হৃদপিণ্ডে মারাত্মক জখম করা হয়েছে বলে এজাহারে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে। বর্তমানে তিনি বরিশাল শের-ই-বাংলা মেডিকেল কলেজ (শেবাচিম) হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন রয়েছেন।
ভুক্তভোগী পরিবারের অভিযোগ, প্রভাবশালী আসামিরা মামলা করার পর থেকেই সুলতানা বেগমও তাঁর স্বামীকে প্রাণনাশের হুমকি দিয়ে আসছে। মামলার সাক্ষীদেরও বিভিন্নভাবে এলাকা ছাড়ার ভয়ভীতি ও হয়রানি করা হচ্ছে বলে জানা গেছে।
জীবনসংকটাপন্ন অবস্থায় বসবাস করা এই পরিবারটি বর্তমানে চরম নিরাপত্তাহীনতায় ভুগছেন। আসামিরা প্রভাবশালী হওয়ায় ন্যায়বিচার পাওয়া নিয়ে তারা শঙ্কা প্রকাশ করেছেন এবং প্রশাসনেরদ্রুতহস্তক্ষেপকামনাকরেছেন।
Police arrested three youths in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila on charges of attempted rape and filming the incident on Saturday, registering a case under the Pornography Control Act.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mujibur Rahman confirmed this incident.
The accused are Md Rahim, 18, son of Hasan Mia of nearby Samibad village, Mahbubur Rahman, 28, son of Ayub Mia, and Trisad, 20, son of Rois Uddin of Gazipura.
According to the victim’s complaint, the accused had been harassing her for a long time. On the night of January 15, Mahbubur Rahman allegedly dragged her to a nearby haystack, where Rahim attempted to rape her. The group is also accused of filming the incident and spreading the video on social media.
After the matter became known in the area, locals detained Rahim, Mahbubur Rahman and Trisad from Gazipura Bazar and informed police. Police took them into custody, later sent them to jail through court.
The OC said that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
They say they travelled to Russia after paying Tk 700,000
Within six months of migration, 35 Bangladeshi workers have been sent back from Russia.
A media statement issued by BRAC, citing the workers, said they were sacked without any valid reason.
The workers alleged that 120 people who migrated from Bangladesh in July were dismissed. They alleged that they were cheated after travelling to Russia by paying Tk 700,000 per person.
The first batch of the sacked workers returned on a Qatar Airways flight at 5:45pm on Sunday.
The returned workers included residents of Gaibandha, Manikganj, Mymensingh, Sirajganj, Chapainawabganj, and Dhaka.
The BRAC statement said the workers were sent by Kashipur Overseas with the certification of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training.
They were employed in the construction sector though they were promised work in factories, the statement noted.
টাঙ্গাইলের গোপালপুর উপজেলার ২ নম্বর হাদিরা ইউনিয়নের ১ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের করিয়াটা গ্রামে জমি সংক্রান্ত চাঁদা আদায়ের উদ্দেশ্যে পরিকল্পিত হামলার অভিযোগ উঠেছে। এতে তিনজন গুরুতর আহত হয়েছেন, যাদের একজনের অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক।
স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, ২ নম্বর হাদিরা ইউনিয়ন ছাত্রদলের সাবেক সভাপতি সুমন (৩৫), পিতা সুজাত আলী এবং তার খালাতো ভাই সোহেল (৩০), পিতা তুতা মিয়া, মিলে গোপালপুর উপজেলা বিএনপির সাবেক সাধারণ সম্পাদক হেদায়েতুল্লাহ বাদশার বড় মেয়ের জামাতা ও ২ নম্বর হাদিরা ইউনিয়ন বিএনপির সাবেক সাধারণ সম্পাদক মরহুম খালেক ভুঁইয়ার ভাগিনা দুদু মিয়া (৬০), তার ভাই মোঃ হাফিজ (৫০) এবং তাদের ভাগিনা, মোঃ সেলিম রেজা (২৮)-এর ওপর হামলা চালায় বলে অভিযোগ করা হয়েছে।
হামলার পর এলাকাবাসী আহতদের উদ্ধার করে গোপালপুর উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে নিয়ে যায়। সেখানে মোঃ হাফিজের মাথায় একাধিক আঘাত গুরুতর হওয়ায় তাকে ও মোঃ সেলিম রেজাকে টাঙ্গাইল সদর হাসপাতালে রেফার্ড করা হয়। পরে মোঃ হাফিজের অবস্থার আরও অবনতি হলে তাকে উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়। বর্তমানে তার অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক বলে জানা গেছে।
স্থানীয়দের অভিযোগ, সোহেল দীর্ঘদিন ধরে ইয়াবা ব্যবসার সঙ্গে জড়িত এবং তার মামা রিপনের সঙ্গে মিলে এলাকায় চাঁদাবাজি ও মাদক ব্যবসা পরিচালনা করে আসছিল। তারা গোপালপুর উপজেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক হিসেবে পরিচিত সুরুজের ঘনিষ্ঠ হিসেবে পরিচিত ছিল বলেও দাবি করেছেন এলাকাবাসী।
এই ঘটনার তীব্র নিন্দা জানিয়ে স্থানীয়রা অভিযুক্তদের দ্রুত গ্রেপ্তার ও দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির দাবি জানিয়েছেন। পাশাপাশি প্রশ্ন উঠেছে, রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়-প্রশ্রয়ে কীভাবে এসব অভিযুক্ত ব্যক্তি প্রকাশ্যে সন্ত্রাসী কর্মকাণ্ড চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে।
এ বিষয়ে এলাকাবাসী প্রশাসনের দ্রুত ও কার্যকর হস্তক্ষেপ কামনা করেছেন এবং দোষীদের বিরুদ্ধে কঠোর আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের জোর দাবি জানিয়েছেন।
লৌহজংয়ে ৫০ পিস ইয়াবাসহ যুবক গ্রেপ্তার মুন্সীগঞ্জের লৌহজং উপজেলায় বিশেষ অভিযান চালিয়ে ৫০ পিস ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেটসহ এক যুবককে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে থানা পুলিশ। পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা যায় মুন্সীগঞ্জ জেলা পুলিশ সুপারের কঠোর নির্দেশনায় বৃহস্পতিবার (১৫ জানুয়ারি) বিকাল সাড়ে ৪টার দিকে লৌহজং থানার একটি আভিযানিক দল উপজেলার গোয়ালীমান্দ্রা এলাকায় বেইলি ব্রিজের পশ্চিম পাশের সড়কে বিশেষ অভিযান পরিচালনা করে। অভিযান চলাকালে সন্দেহভাজন এক যুবককে থামিয়ে তল্লাশি চালানো হলে তার পরিহিত প্যান্টের পকেট থেকে তিনটি পলিথিনে মোড়ানো মোট ৫০ পিস ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট উদ্ধার করা হয়। এ সময় ওই যুবককে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। গ্রেপ্তারকৃত ব্যক্তির নাম তৈয়ব মিয়া (২৭)। তিনি মুন্সীগঞ্জ জেলার শ্রীনগর উপজেলার কামারখোলা গ্রামের বাসিন্দা। তার পিতার নাম নুরুল হক মিয়া। পুলিশের প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে জানা গেছে গ্রেপ্তারকৃত তৈয়ব মিয়া দীর্ঘদিন ধরে ইয়াবাসহ বিভিন্ন ধরনের মাদকদ্রব্য বহন ও সরবরাহের সঙ্গে জড়িত ছিলেন বলে সন্দেহ করা হচ্ছে। উদ্ধারকৃত ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেটসহ গ্রেপ্তার আসামির বিরুদ্ধে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে মামলা দায়েরের প্রক্রিয়া চলমান রয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে পুলিশ। এ বিষয়ে মুন্সীগঞ্জ জেলা পুলিশ জানায়, জেলায় মাদকবিরোধী অভিযান নিয়মিতভাবে পরিচালনা করা হচ্ছে। মাদক নির্মূলে পুলিশ সর্বদা তৎপর রয়েছে। একই সঙ্গে মাদক সংক্রান্ত যেকোনো তথ্য জেলা পুলিশের কন্ট্রোল রুমে জানানোর জন্য সাধারণ জনগণের প্রতি আহ্বান জানানো হয়েছে।
ফরিদপুরের সালথায় এক প্রতিবন্ধী যুবতীকে ফুসলিয়ে একাধিকবার ধর্ষণের অভিযোগে কাইয়ুম মোল্লা (৪৫) নামের এক ব্যক্তিকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ। শনিবার (১৭ জানুয়ারি) দুপুরে গ্রেপ্তারকৃত আসামিকে ফরিদপুরের বিজ্ঞ আদালতে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, সালথা উপজেলার ভাওয়াল ইউনিয়নের পুরুরা সাধুপাড়া গ্রামে এই ন্যাক্কারজনক ঘটনা ঘটে। অভিযুক্ত কাইয়ুম মোল্লা ওই গ্রামের মো. রোকন মোল্লার ছেলে। তিনি এক ছেলে ও এক মেয়ের জনক।
মামলার এজাহার অনুযায়ী, কাইয়ুম মোল্লা ওই ২৮ বছর বয়সী প্রতিবন্ধী যুবতীকে ফুসলিয়ে বিভিন্ন সময় একাধিকবার ধর্ষণ করেন। সম্প্রতি ওই যুবতী গর্ভবতী হয়ে পড়লে বিষয়টি জানাজানি হয়। এ ঘটনায় শুক্রবার রাতে ভুক্তভোগীর পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে সালথা থানায় নারী ও শিশু নির্যাতন দমন আইনে একটি মামলা দায়ের করা হয়। মামলা দায়েরের পরপরই পুলিশ অভিযান চালিয়ে নিজ বাড়ি থেকে অভিযুক্ত কাইয়ুমকে গ্রেপ্তার করে।
সালথা থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. বাবলুর রহমান খান ঘটনার সত্যতা নিশ্চিত করে জানান, “একাধিকবার ধর্ষণের ফলে ভুক্তভোগী প্রতিবন্ধী যুবতী অন্তঃসত্ত্বা হয়ে পড়েছেন। অভিযোগ পাওয়ার পরপরই আমরা আসামিকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছি এবং আজ শনিবার দুপুরে তাকে বিজ্ঞ আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়েছে।”
তিনি আরও জানান, ভুক্তভোগী যুবতীকে উদ্ধার করে প্রয়োজনীয় ডাক্তারি পরীক্ষার (মেডিকেল টেস্ট) জন্য হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে।
ঘটনাটি জানাজানি হওয়ার পর স্থানীয় এলাকাবাসীর মধ্যে তীব্র ক্ষোভের সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। তারা এই জঘন্য অপরাধের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তির দাবি জানিয়েছেন।
নারায়ণগঞ্জের ফতুল্লায় শুল্ক কর ফাঁকি দিয়ে আসা প্রায় ২৯ লাখ টাকা মূল্যের বিপুল পরিমাণ ভারতীয় কসমেটিক্সসহ ২ পাচারকারীকে আটক করেছে কোস্ট গার্ড। শনিবার (১৭ জানুয়ারি) বিকেলে কোস্ট গার্ড মিডিয়া কর্মকর্তা লেফটেন্যান্ট কমান্ডার সিয়াম-উল-হক এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন।
এর আগে শুক্রবার দিবাগত গভীর রাতে গার্ড স্টেশন পাগলা কর্তৃক নারায়ণগঞ্জের ফতুল্লা বাজার সংলগ্ন এলাকায় একটি বিশেষ অভিযান পরিচালনা করা হয়।
অভিযান চলাকালীন উক্ত এলাকায় সন্দেহজনক ১টি মিনি ট্রাক তল্লাশি করে প্রায় ২৮ লাখ ৬৮ হাজার টাকা মূল্যের অবৈধভাবে শুল্ক কর ফাঁকি দিয়ে আসা ভারতীয় কসমেটিক্স ও ট্রাকসহ ২ জন পাচারকারীকে আটক করা হয়।
এ বিষয়ে লেফটেন্যান্ট কমান্ডার সিয়াম-উল-হক বলেন, ‘জব্দকৃত আলামত ও আটককৃত পাচারকারীদের পরবর্তী আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের কার্যক্রম প্রক্রিয়াধীন রয়েছে। চোরাচালান রোধে কোস্ট গার্ড ভবিষ্যতেও এ ধরনের অভিযান অব্যাহত রাখবে’।
বগুড়ার আদমদীঘি উপজেলার সান্তাহার পৌর শহরের হবির মোড় নামক স্থান থেকে দুই মাদক কারবারিকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে সান্তাহার মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তরের ‘খ’ সার্কেলের সদস্যরা।
গতকাল বৃহস্পতিবার ভোর ৫ টায় বগুড়া-নওগাঁ মহাসড়কের ট্রাক্টর শ্রমিক ইউনিয়ন অফিসের সামনে পাকা রাস্তা থেকে তাদের গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। গ্রেপ্তারকৃতরা হলো, দিনাজপুর জেলার হাকিমপুর উপজেলার দেবখন্ডা (ডাঙ্গাপাড়া বাজার) গ্রামের মৃত কুবাদ হোসেন মন্ডলের ছেলে আনিছুর রহমান (৪২) ও একই উপজেলার লালবাগ গ্রামের হাসান আলীর ছেলে বিপ্লব হোসেন (২২)। এ বিষয়ে সান্তাহার “খ”সাকের্লের মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তরের পরিদর্শক আসলাম আলী মন্ডল জানান,
গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে অভিযান চালিয়ে তাদের দেহ তল্লাশি করে ফুল প্যান্টের সামনের ডান পকেটে স্কচটেপ দ্বারা মোড়ানো নীল রংয়ের জিপার যুক্ত পলি প্যাকেট মোড়ানো অবস্থা প্যাকেটে কমলা বর্ণের অ্যামফিটামিন যুক্ত ৬০০ পিস ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট উদ্ধার করা হয়। এ ঘটনায় আদমদীঘি থানায় মাদকদ্রব্য আইনে একটি মামলা দায়ের পর তাদেরকে দুপুরে বগুড়া জেলা হাজতে প্রেরণ করা হয়েছে। x1200
কাজলা প্রতিনিধি: রাজশাহী নগরীতে এক বাক প্রতিবন্ধী কিশোরীকে (১২) ধর্ষণের অভিযোগে ওসমান গনি ওরফে ফুয়াদ (৪০) নামের এক যুবককে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।
বুধবার দুপুরে নগরীর কাটাখালী থানার হরিয়ান পূর্বপাড়া এলাকার একটি বাড়িতে ঢুকে অভিযুক্ত যুবক ওই নাবালিকা মেয়েকে ধর্ষণ করে। বুধবার রাতেই নাবালিকার মা কাটাখালী থানায় ওই যুবকের বিরুদ্ধে বিরুদ্ধে একটি ধর্ষণ মামলা দায়ের করেন।
মামলার পর বুধবার রাতেই কাটাখালী থানা-পুলিশ ওই যুবককে গ্রেফতার করে। মামলার এজাহারে ভুক্তভোগীর মা উল্লেখ করেন, বুধবার সকালে বাক প্রতিবন্ধী মেয়েকে বাড়িতে রেখে তিনি স্থানীয় ইউনিয়ন পরিষদে গিয়েছিলেন। দুপুরে সেখান থেকে বাড়ি ফিরে দেখেন, অভিযুক্ত যুবক তার মেয়েকে ধর্ষণ করছে। তখন তিনি চিৎকার শুরু করলে অভিযুক্ত যুবক পালিয়ে যায়।
বৃহস্পতিবার কাটাখালী থানার অফিসার ইনজার্জ (ওসি) সুমন কদেরী বলেন, বাক প্রতিবন্ধী কিশোরীকে ধর্ষণ মামলায় অভিযুক্ত যুবককে রাতেই গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। বৃহস্পতিবার সকালে তাকে বিজ্ঞ আদালতের মাধ্যমে জেল হাজতে প্রেরণ করা হয়েছে।
ভোলার লালমোহনে পারিবারিক কলহের জেরে রুনা বেগম নামে এক গৃহবধূকে শ্বাসরোধ করে হত্যার অভিযোগ উঠেছে স্বামী জিহাদের বিরুদ্ধে।
গতকাল বুধবার (১৪ জানুয়ারি) সন্ধ্যার দিকে উপজেলার পশ্চিম চরউমেদ ইউনিয়নের ৩নং ওয়ার্ডের গণেশপুর গ্রামে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। নিহত রুনা ওই এলাকার হাফিজুর রহমানের মেয়ে।
এদিকে, ঘটনার পরপরই স্বামী জিহাদ পালিয়ে গেলেও আজ বৃহস্পতিবার (১৫ জানুয়ারি) ভোরে সদর উপজেলার ইলিশা লঞ্চঘাট এলাকা থেকে তাকে আটক করে র্যাব ও পুলিশ। আটককৃত জিহাদ ওই ইউনিয়নের পাঙাশিয়া এলাকার বাসিন্দা আলমগীর হোসেনের ছেলে।
পুলিশ ও স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে, রুনা ও জিহাদ সম্পর্কে দুজন মামাতো-ফুফাতো ভাই-বোন। গত ৭ মাস আগে পারিবারিকভাবেই তাদের বিয়ে হয়। বিয়ের পর থেকেই তাদের দাম্পত্য জীবনে চলছে নানা রকমের কলহ।
বিষয়টি পারিবারিকভাবে একাধিকবার মীমাংসা করা হলেও কোনভাবেই তাদের সম্পর্ক স্বাভাবিক করতে পারেননি কেউ। প্রায় সময় স্বামী জিহাদ স্ত্রী রুনার ওপর চালায় পাশবিক নির্যাতন। ঘটনার দিন বুধবারও রুনার মা সালিশের উদ্দেশ্যে জিহাদের বাড়িতে যান। সে সময় রুনা তার বাবার বাড়িতে অবস্থান করছিলেন এবং জিহাদও তার নিজ বাড়িতে ছিলেন। সালিশের পরপরই জিহাদ রুনার বাড়িতে যান। এ সময় রুনার মা জিহাদের বাড়িতে ছিলেন এবং বাবা ঘরের বাইরে ছিলেন।
রুনার চাচি নূর জাহান বেগম জানান, বুধবার সন্ধ্যার দিকে রুনার ঘর থেকে শব্দ পেয়ে তিনি সেখানে যান। এরপর ঘরে ঢুকে দেখেন বিছানায় পড়ে রয়েছে রুনা। তার শরীর কম্বল দিয়ে ঢাকা ছিলো এবং বুকের ওপর একটি বালিশ রাখা ছিলো। এরপর তাকে ডাকাডাকি করে তার কোনো সাড়াশব্দ না পেয়ে কম্বল সরিয়ে দেখতে পাই রুনার গলায় নখের আঁচড়ের দাগ এবং বিছানা প্রস্রাবে ভিজে রয়েছে। তার মুখে লালা এবং রক্ত ছিলো। পরে স্থানীয় এক পল্লী চিকিৎসককে খবর দিলে তিনি এসে রুনাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন। এদিকে, খবর পেয়ে ঘটনাস্থলের ছুটে যান লালমোহন থানা পুলিশ। তারা মৃত রুনার মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে নিয়ে থানায় যান।
লালমোহন থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ (ওসি) মো. অলিউল ইসলাম বলেন,খবর পেয়ে ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করে ওই গৃহবধূর মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য ভোলা সদর হাসপাতালের মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে। তবে ঘটনার পর থেকে তার স্বামী জিহাদ পলাতক থাকায় তাকে তথ্য-প্রযুক্তির সহায়তায় র্যাব-পুলিশের যৌথ অভিযানে ভোলা সদর উপজেলার ইলিশা লঞ্চঘাট থেকে তাকে আটক করা হয়।
তিনি আরও জানান, আটকের পর প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে স্ত্রীকে বালিশচাপা দিয়ে শ্বাসরোধে হত্যা করেছেন বলে স্বীকার করেছেন জিহাদ। এ ঘটনায় প্রয়োজনীয় আইনি ব্যবস্থা নেয়া হচ্ছে।
অপারেশন ডেভিল হান্ট ফেজ–২-এর অংশ হিসেবে নোয়াখালীর হাতিয়ায় কোস্ট গার্ডের বিশেষ অভিযানে একটি দেশীয় আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র ও দুই রাউন্ড তাজা কার্তুজসহ দুই দুষ্কৃতিকারীকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে।
গ্রেপ্তার হওয়া ব্যক্তিদের বুধবার (১৪ জানুয়ারি) দুপুরে হাতিয়া আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়। এর আগে মঙ্গলবার (১৩ জানুয়ারি) রাত ৯টার দিকে গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে কোস্ট গার্ড স্টেশন হাতিয়ার একটি দল হাতিয়া থানাধীন ১ নম্বর ক্ষিরোদিয়া বলির ব্রিজ সংলগ্ন এলাকায় অভিযান চালিয়ে তাদের গ্রেপ্তার করে।
গ্রেপ্তাররা হলেন—হাতিয়া উপজেলার দক্ষিণ সুল্লকিয়া গ্রামের আব্দুর রহিমের ছেলে রুবেল উদ্দিন (২৪) এবং হামদ উল্লাহ গ্রামের আকবর হোসেনের ছেলে মামুন উদ্দিন (২৪)।
কোস্ট গার্ড সূত্র জানায়, অভিযানের সময় তাদের কাছ থেকে একটি দেশীয় আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র ও দুই রাউন্ড তাজা কার্তুজ জব্দ করা হয়। প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে জানা গেছে, আটকরা দীর্ঘদিন ধরে বিভিন্ন নাশকতামূলক কর্মকাণ্ডের মাধ্যমে এলাকায় আতঙ্ক সৃষ্টি করে আসছিল।
পরবর্তীতে জব্দকৃত আলামতসহ আটক আসামিদের বিরুদ্ধে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের জন্য হাতিয়া থানায় হস্তান্তর করা হয়।
কোস্ট গার্ডের মিডিয়া কর্মকর্তা লেফটেন্যান্ট কমান্ডার সিয়াম-উল-হক বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে বলেন, ‘দেশের আইন-শৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক রাখতে বাংলাদেশ কোস্ট গার্ড ভবিষ্যতেও এ ধরনের অভিযান অব্যাহত রাখবে’।
রাজশাহী প্রতিনিধিঃ রাজশাহী নগরীতে পৃথক পৃথক স্থানে অভিযান চালিয়ে বিপুল পরিমান ইয়াবা, গাঁজা, নেশাজাতীয় সিরাপ ও ট্যাপেন্টাডল-সহ ৬জন মাদক কারবারীকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।
সোমবার (১২ জানুয়ারি) নগরীর মতিহার থানা ও পবা থানা অঞ্চলে অভিযান চালায় থানা ও মহানগর গোয়েন্দা পুলিশ (ডিবি)। এ সময় ৩৫ বোতল নেশাজাতীয় ট্রিপ্রোলিডিন-কোডিন সিরাপ, ৮৮ পিস ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট, ২২ পুরিয়ায় ১০৪ গ্রাম গাঁজা, ২০ পিস ট্যাপেন্টাডল ট্যাবলেট এবং মাদক বিক্রির নগদ ১ হাজার ১৬০ টাকা ও মাদক বিক্রিতে ব্যবহৃত একটি মোটরসাইকেল ও দুটি মোবাইল জব্দ করা হয়।
গ্রেফতাকৃতরা হলো: মোঃ রাজু (৩৮), সে নগরীর দামকুড়া থানার খোলাবোনা গ্রামের বাসিন্দা, মোঃ আমিনুল ইসলাম মুন্না (৪০), সে রাজপাড়া থানার তেরখাদিয়া ডাবতলা এলাকার বাসিন্দা, একই থানার আব্দুল আল মামুন ওরফে ডিম বাবু (৩১), সে মহিষবাথান (উত্তরপাড়া) এলাকার বাসিন্দা, মোঃ ইসরাফীল হোসেন (২৫), সে লক্ষীপুর ভাটাপাড়া এলাকার বাসিন্দা, মোঃ আলমগীর (৪৫), সে পবা থানার ঘোলহাড়িয়া গ্রামের বাসিন্দা এবং মোঃ রবিন আলী (৩৬), সে রাজশাহীর চারঘাট থানার বালাদিয়াড় গ্রামের বাসিন্দা, (বর্তমানে মতিহার থানার ধরমপুর এলাকায় ভাড়াকরা বাড়িতে বসবাস করে।
মঙ্গলবার সন্ধ্যায় এ তথ্য নিশ্চিত করেছেন নগর পুলিশের মুখপাত্র উপ-পুলিশ কমিশনার মোঃ গাজিউর রহমান, পিপিএম।
তিনি জানান, সোমবার পরিচালিত অভিযানে উপরোক্ত মাদকদ্রব্য ও মাদক বিক্রিয় কাজে ব্যবহৃত একটি মোটরসাইকেল ও দুটি মোবাইল জব্দ করা হয়। জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে গ্রেফতারকৃতরা জব্দকৃত মাদকদ্রব্য বিক্রির উদ্দেশ্যে নিজেদের কাছে রাখার কথা স্বীকার করেছে।
এ ব্যপারে গ্রেফতারকৃতদের বিরুদ্ধে সংশ্লিষ্ট থানায় মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে পৃথক মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে। মঙ্গলবার সকালে তাদের বিজ্ঞ আদালতের মাধ্যমে জেলহাজতে প্রেরণ করা হয়েছে।
চাঁদপুর সদর উপজেলায় দ্রুতগামী বাসের চাপায় রাহেলা আক্তার শান্তা (১৮) নামে এক কলেজ ছাত্রীর মর্মান্তিক মৃত্যু হয়েছে। বুধবার (৭ জানুয়ারি ২০২৬) দুপুরে ঘোষেরহাট এলাকায় এ দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।
নিহত শান্তা উপজেলার বড় শাহতলী গ্রামের শামছুল হুদার মেয়ে। তিনি জিলানী চিশতী কলেজের বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের দ্বাদশ শ্রেণির নিয়মিত ছাত্রী ছিলেন।
প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, দুপুর আনুমানিক ১২টার দিকে রাস্তা পারাপারের সময় চাঁদপুরগামী আইদি পরিবহনের একটি বাস তাকে সজোরে চাপা দেয়। ঘটনাস্থলেই তিনি গুরুতর আহত হয়ে লুটিয়ে পড়েন। স্থানীয় লোকজন তাকে দ্রুত উদ্ধার করে চাঁদপুর সদর হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যান। সেখানে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা দেওয়ার পর তার অবস্থার অবনতি হলে ঢাকায় রেফার করা হয়। কিন্তু ঢাকা যাওয়ার পথে বিকেল ৪টার দিকে শান্তা মারা যান।
চাঁদপুর সদর মডেল থানার ওসি মো. ফয়েজ আহম্মেদ ঘটনার সত্যতা নিশ্চিত করে জানান, এ ব্যাপারে আইনি ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ প্রক্রিয়াধীন রয়েছে।
চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তরের অভিযানে গাঁজাসহ তিনজনকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। পরে ভ্রাম্যমাণ আদালতের মাধ্যমে প্রত্যেককে কারাদণ্ড ও অর্থদণ্ড প্রদান করা হয়।
মঙ্গলবার (৬ জানুয়ারি) দুপুর ২টা ৩০ মিনিটে সদর মডেল থানাধীন মসজিদপাড়া এলাকায় এ অভিযান পরিচালনা করা হয়।
কারাদণ্ড হওয়া ব্যক্তিরা হলেন মো. তসিকুল ইসলাম তছি (৩০), মো. সাইদুর রহমান (৫০), মো. শরিফুল ইসলাম সুমন (৩২)। তিনজনই সদর মডেল থানা, চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ জেলার বাসিন্দা।
অভিযানকালে আসামিদের কাছ থেকে মোট ৬৫ গ্রাম গাঁজা উদ্ধার করা হয়। এর মধ্যে পৃথকভাবে ২০ গ্রাম, ২০ গ্রাম ও ২৫ গ্রাম গাঁজা জব্দ করা হয়।
পরে উপ-পরিদর্শক মো. মুস্তাফিজুর রহমান প্রসিকিউশন দাখিল করলে সহকারী কমিশনার (ভূমি) ও বিজ্ঞ নির্বাহী ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট মো. ইকরামুল হক নাহিদ ভ্রাম্যমাণ আদালত পরিচালনা করেন। আদালত প্রত্যেক আসামিকে ৬ (ছয়) মাসের বিনাশ্রম কারাদণ্ড প্রদান করেন। পাশাপাশি আসামিদের পৃথকভাবে ৩২০ টাকা, ১৫০ টাকা ও ২০০ টাকা করে অর্থদণ্ড প্রদান করা হয়।
মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ অধিদপ্তর জানিয়েছে, মাদকের বিরুদ্ধে এ ধরনের অভিযান অব্যাহত থাকবে।
